  1. Hey poms , hope your all well ! Just wanted to post as it's been a while since I've been on here . i honestly can't believe how quick time has gone here as it doesn't seem like 2 minutes ago since we were boarding the big white bird for our Perth adventure !! Its been an an amazing two years and can say its the best decision we have ever made ! It's such an amazing place , and the more I'm here the more I love it, this is our home now and it will be for evermore , so for anyone going through the painful visa process now , just hang in there as it is so worth it and you will be living the dream before you know it ! ?? x
  2. hey fifi, how are you guys? where abouts in perth are you? I take it from the zip code you are south?
  3. cheers bottler! still a few old/young faces on here then!
  4. Hey guys, Hope everyone is well, it's been a while since I was on this site , and by the looks of it there are are a lot of new people on here which is great, as it brings back memories of when I first started the visa process . I feel a little bit guilty that I just used the web site for info then just sacked it off when I got my visa grant! but what I will say is the only reason I haven't been back on is because we really have been "living the dream!" Perth is everything we thought it would be and more! Bearing in mind we have never even been to Australia before ! Everything has worked out for us and we have an amazing life now! I know what everyone on this forum is going thru,as we have been in ur situation , but don't give up on your dream as it will so be worth it in the end! It's the most stressful but most rewarding thing you will ever do on your lives! Guys, I'm happy to share any info I have with u if you have any questions , would like to give something back to this forum , as it helped me so much on our journey ! Peace out x
  5. I love ur posts mate, perth is quality and we love it here !! the breakwater in hillarys is awesome to. i dont get why people feel the need to slag perth of ! fair enough it wasnt for some people , just jog on and get on with ur lives.if everybody in life liked and done the same things the world would be a boring place eh?? lifes to short !! just accept everyones different peeps!! Benny out x
  6. yeah mate, but it was tiny .......it was a scaled down model ,hipped roof built on a 8x4 sheet of ply but only one half of it, the common rafters were about 800mm long. so really easy mate! i think i still have the test papers and drawings if you want me to send them to you. The other option is if your really not comfortable doing roofs is applying as a carpenter & joiner and the assesment is different , its more like running timber through thicknesers and doing scaled drawings.
  7. Hi jackson , if i were you id apply for a skilled 190 visa as a carpenter.if you want to train ad a plumber then i would do it in WA as theybdont really recognise uk qualifications out here so it would be a waste of time training.inthe uk ,then having to pay loads of money when you get out here to doyour WA licence. As a chippy you can just come out here and work as long as you have a whi te card.
  8. Hi scrumpy, the worlds your oyster over here mate!! i know a couple of plumbers who come out here and got into installing air conditioning which is obviously big buisiness out here and pays well!! that could be an option for you .
  9. hi clare, funny enough we traveled around loads of different suburbs when we got here , north and south and decided we really liked where we was, we are in somerly near mindarie which is lovely.got the kids into school after two weeks , no prolem at all. where will you be staying?
  10. hey mate, i got a toyota hilux 3litre diesel, you seem to pay a premium for toyotas out here but thet are built like tanks and go on for ever ! they love their gas guzzling v6's and v8's out here but i had to be sensible as i do alot of miles.
  11. Hi mate, we used a company called relocate perth, the womans name is Edith and she was brilliant, when we got here we had trouble hiring a car and had no transport so when we got to the property her husband picked us up and took us to the shops to get some food in and lots of beer lol. If you want I can pm you her phone number and email. Most of her properties are up north and I think she had some places in quinns rock to mate!
  12. hey mate , im a self employed carpenter, work is good for me over here as money us a lot better than the uk,
  13. cheers everybody for your kind words.....this site was awesome for us and really helped us through the stressful visa process !! so if anyone needs any help or advice at all ,dont hesitate to ask, im here to help! lol
  14. Hey Poms ,it's been a few months since I was last here, but it's been an a mental but amazing few months in awesome perth!!! Things are just starting to calm down now and we feel really settled even only after 4 months .....it just feels right. Both me and claire have full time work, and the kids are loving there new school , and the fact they can wear shorts all year round . The weather has been amazing since we got here, and even tho it's starting to get a bit chilly during the nights and mornings now its winter the sun is still beaming all day long and it's lovely and warm . I think in the last 4 months we have done more here with the kids than we would have done in a year in the u.k. Every weekend we are out down the beach or having bbqs and picnics in the park with friends, down the mariner fishing and crabing. I can safely say this life is all we'd thought it would be and more!! There is not one thing I miss about the u.k. And already this feels like home for me:biggrin:
  15. Cool beans Tony!!,We are in Clarkson at the min,but not to familiar with the area yet.am up for a round next Sat if you can make it?Let me know bro.k
  16. Hey tonyman, haha yeah I'm nothing special! Usually play of about 14 but haven't played for a couple of months with all the move going on and everything .so probably nearer to 18 now!! My clubs are being shipped over so won't get them till the end of marching could hire someone in th meantime if u fancy a knock! Where do u live and play normally??
  17. That was meant to say joondalup! Not goodwill! Lol bloody predictive text!!
  18. Hey pommies, been here three weeks now and need to dust the bats off and get back on the course, any one NOR fancy hooking up for a round? Also r there any decent courses about ? Goodwill looks pretty tasty!
  19. ! Hey mad cow, yeah I don't get it ! People can slag Clarkson off as much as they want....it won't change our views..we think its lovely. We are aware of the high school situation but the primary school is lovely! And by the time our kids get to the age of high school we will have moved on ,or maybe we might stay here!!! (Shock horror!!!!) Think people need to stop walking around with plums in there mouths! And stop being so stuck up ! No where is perfect! Even the most desirable areas have issues! Cheers Benny out
  20. They ask for character references in the application, but all we had was work references,so we just put them in and lucky enough the landlord of our short term let offered to be a referee for us as well.just put as much info about your selves as you can. Hope this helps
  21. Hey Jake, yeah it's all good here mate.haven't started work yet but just been offered a job doing fifo on the mines.money is unreal!!! So I'm gonna give it a go!there is plenty of work in the city and surrounding areas but u need to do your white card to get a job.
  22. Hey Jules, yes I totally agree! I think that people try to run before they can walk when they emigrate, wanting the perfect life as soon as they arrive! Fair enough if you come over with plenty of dosh you might have it ! We didn't come over with rose tinted glases on and knew we would have to work our way up and we are very happy with things so far!but already we can see what a fantastic life we are gonna have here!!
  23. Hey Welshkiwi, mindarie is lush,if we could have afforded it we would have gone there,Clarkson is right next to mindarie.I know people have different views and that is fair enough.but for us it's lovely and have not got anything bad to say at present.we are from Luton near Bedfordshire which was voted the worst town in the UK to live !!! Lol so for us this is a step up.it wasn't our first choice but is so much more affordable compared to suburbs closer to the city. We don't intend on staying here long term but for now it's fine till we get settled and find our feet, the house is so nice and in a lovely street, everyone we have met here have been so friendly and the ocean keys shopping centre and mindarie beach are on our door step! In regards to the school,my kids are going to somerly primary school which is really nice and the kids seem really well behaved.our kids are a few years of high school by which time we will be in a better position to send our kids to a decent high school.so at this moment in time it's perfect for us!
  24. Hey guys, just thought I'd let people know there is hope for people renting in Perth! We applied for our first long term rental a couple of days ago after only being here a week, and got it!!! Can't believe it after all the story's I heard on here about ten families turning up for one viewing ! We are in lovely area of somerly in Clarkson just 5 minutes drive to mindarie beach. It's a lovely big 4x2x2 house,so can't believe our luck.we also managed to get the kids enrolled in the local primary school which is about a 10 minute walk from the house, and they start on Tuesday.also bank cards and TFN number arrived yesterday.so it was a great day yesterday and feels like Everything is falling into place after only being here a week!!
