We were successfully granted a 163 visa. Is it possible for my husband to do contract work on the 163 visa for the first 6-12 months until we are established and have a good idea of how the situation/contacts are, or is he simply restricted to having to open up a business and set-up from scratch day one? I'm aware that spouse and family members are entitled to obtain work, but does this also apply to the primary applicant? Thanks.

Hi We have been luckily granted the 163 business owner's visa. My husband will initially need to get a contract job to tide us over financially. Is it possible that the company he goes to work for could sponsor him or is the only route to permanent residency the 892 business visa after 4 years? It is just that we are struggling to sell the house in UK and one of the terms of the permanent 892 visa is the transfer of assets to Australia. It would be a lot easier for us to rent the house. Hi we are applying for the temporary business visa 163 which states we are not entitled to medicare until we apply for permanent visa after 4 years. What would this cost us in terms of doctor visits and precriptions etc? My husband has tablets for high blood pressure and my daughter has just been diagnosed with coeliac disease so would need possible 6 monthly blood tests. As we are from Uk there is some recipricoal agreement with medicare but I don't really understand what this means. Any ideas?? Thank you!!

Hi My daughter will be 4 in March and eligible (I think) for WA Kindergarten 4 mornings a week. Does this start as soon as she turns 4 or will she start at the beginning of term. Does anyone know the term dates for WA? Thanks

We got our 163 business visa application in just before the end of June deadline and am just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get a case officer allocated? I am wondering whether the change of business visa regulations will speed things up or slow things down. Anyone else waiting too?

We are thinking now we could actually have done all the paper work ourselves without forking out all the extra money for an agent but you live and learn! Whereabouts in Perth are you looking to move to? We spent 3 weeks recently staying in Currambine, North perth which was modern but very nice. A lot of Brits in that area which may or may not be your cup of tea! Our proposed business plan was IT related but I think we too would look at buying an existing business for the initial 2 years. I suspect our timeline may be longer than yours as with there being a deadline they will be getting a lot of applications before then to process, the agent reckons about 12 months. It will be worth the wait in the end all going well!

Congratulations! It is great to hear someone has received the 163 - there are not many posts on here about it! We are also applying for 163 and have to do so before deadline of June 30th as they are changing system for these visas. We have sent all paperwork off to agent so hopefully our application will go in very soon. WOuld love to hear what your plans are - are you starting your own business or buying an existing one? It is a long way off for us but we are wondering what the easiest way to do it is to gain the PR in quickest time. Your time line is pretty quick considering it all went on hold for the baby!
