  1. Hi everyone, There are 3 different subjects/questions here, please bear with me. I will be most grateful for your advice. By the time we get make the move, our 6 ft (1.80m ish) tall larder fridge will be 13 years old. It’s a lovely fridge (not fridge freezer) as I bake and cook a lot and I make all sorts of stuff, a smaller fridge was not suitable. We also have a large chest freezer, about 1.90m width and a tall freezer 5ft 1.50 m tall. we have an allotment and buy meat in bulk. I would like to ask please, to all of you, who have successfully made the move and shipped their fridges and freezer and other white goods, washing machines, tumble dryers, etc over: Did the appliances make it there alright? Do they work without problems? ( I read somewhere that because it’s hotter over there, the fridge and freezers from the UK market don’t cool/freeze down enough for them to be of any use- sounds like nonsense to me, but it may be true…..) so it is not worth taking them. I’ve heard that white goods and most electrical are very expensive. Should I take my small kitchen appliances and hairdryer for example? I know plugs would need to be changed. The hoover? Could you kindly please let me know if the rule ‘you must have owned the item for longer than one year’ applies to ‘everything’? i.e. from a slow cooker to a bed or a 3 seater couch? Does being small or large make a difference? Would I need receipts to prove their age? I am fussy with my stuff and I keep everything clean and looking their best, so for example my small kitchen appliances are quite new looking and clean. Where could I find an official list of what I can take and not take? I have perfume for example. My family knows that I like perfume and I get these as birthday and Christmas presents, I have quite a few bottles. Can they be shipped or does it depend on the company that we hire to ship? Sorry to ask so many questions ;o) Thank you SO very much everyone!! --
  2. Good morning everyone! Well I have been looking at prices online and considering our budget, the new houses in the above areas may suit ours. however, in the map they look closeish to Liverpool, which I have been told to avoid. Could anyone please advise me if these areas are good? does it get very hot there in summer? A question that has been bugging me..... Do you all use reverse air con? How do you cope with the cold weather? i have just put the heating on as I couldn't cope with being cold anymore. Looking at the temperatures, it was around 9 to 10 C at night and I am sure it gets as cold or colder there in winter. Please enlighten me and I will be most grateful to hear your opinions around the SW Sydney areas too. Thank you very much  AP
  3. Hi everyone, Hubby's left me the research....to be honest, I spend so much time reading the posts, they're great fun to read  Anyway, I know there are lots of very helpful peeps here so I wanted to pick your brains please.... We've been to the Central Coast and we loved Terrigal but as it is a seaside town, it can be quite expensive to live there. Looking at the map, we would consider going up as far as Lake Macquarie or even Newcastle, perhaps. Where would you go? Also, having looked into Woollongong, I read that they have strong winds in autumn and winter. I hate strong winds, maybe I have a little trauma...in our old house, everytime we had strong winds, we woke up next morning, looked at the back garden, and lo and behold 'another' fence panel had fallen down, again! We were totally fed up, lovely long garden but expensive having to repair so any fence panels all the time, apart from the horrible noise the wind makes at night, anyway, sorry for straying of the topic. We would like to be approximately 50 to 60 miles or maybe up to 70 miles north or south of Sydney-preferably on the coast, somewhere with no strong winds  , shopping centres nearby, etc, nice area of course. Thank you very much indeed. Enjoy the heat to all those who are in the UK, it's a scorchio!!! AP x:animal-pig:
  4. Hi Jtrd, Sorry to pick up an oldish post from you but, do you think you can enlighten me please, What do you mean by your quote….be careful with what you wish for…. Are things not turning up as well or how you expected them to be? It’s always hard to make the move but what things are not as good then? Just wondering it’s all gloomy with all the comments about how expensive food prices (well, we eat 3 times a day, at least!) are over there and after checking some menus for some fast food restaurants, i.e. Amigos Mexican Restaurant and Hog’s Breath’s Café, well, the answer is yes! It does seem too be quite expensive to me! A Chimichanga/Fajita for 17 quid? I can get that in Iguanas for £12 and if I take my voucher during the week (when applicable and available) it can cost around £10 or less depending on the deal. So it does, seem expensive. Is that because we produce so much cheap food, i.e. chickens cramped in small spaces and over there the chickens are ‘happier’ being free range, therefore more expensive? I would take Hog’s Breath in the same line as the Harvester Restaurants, for example. And even that type of fast food is above normal of what we pay over here, therefore, visits would have to become less regular over there. Is beef cheaper than over here? I wouldn’t mind making my own burgers and grilling my own steaks if cheaper than going out to a grill restaurant…. Is living the dream….becoming too expensive? Sorry for going on…..I just feel a bit deflated and after reading Jrd’s I wonder if she means that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The grass is very green here, oh yes, it’s been raining daily for the last 4 weeks ....Only joking! Thanks for replying!
  5. thank you ever so much everyone, head's clearer now. all the best to everyone of you
  6. I'm :chatterbox:as confused as he looks! could you please give me your honest opinion, where would you go? Brissy sounds nice but termites, sand flies and humidity don't. Adelaide sounds the type of tranquil surroundings I love, but is it really expensive and too quiet and above all 'cold'in winter? Having said that, I have read that Sydney can get pretty chilli too. Been reading far too much about being cold in Adelaide andSydney and that the houses are not built for the cold in winter that I keep thinking of Brisbane.....then all the tropical insects come to mind......really confused here. Can anyone help? Thank you very, very much. AC
  7. Sorry just reading some old posts....could anyone be so kind to give an answer to the question by guest51977 please? I'm worried if that was my case too.....what would happen? They couldn't leave you once they have asked for Pcc and medicals? This 1july is taking ages to arrive.....:arghh: Thank you very much!
  8. Thank you NurseAng! we have now printed all forms and will fill them! Best of luck and I hope al goes smoothly for both of us!!
  9. Many thanks indeed Leborvellec and Jit7! I'll check the panel docs you sent me, Saturday appts sound ideal! You are such a helpful bunch PIO!
  10. Thank you for responding L! 175, from the UK. do you think I should hang on till the CO asks for them two things? Bosses at work make such a fuss about granting leave quickly. I was trying to be organised  Thank you again! We are not using an agent.
  11. Hello all, being thick here...howl do you know when you get a CO allocated? does he/she "always" send you an email to request PC Cerys and medicals? Do you have to check online, what will it say there and where? We read a thread recently where a couple of peeps got theirs quite quickly, one 7weeks after. And the other nearly 4 months after lodging.....are they common occurrences lately or were they just very lucky? just thinking of booking Medicals andd getting the PC sometime in Sept-or are we being too hopeful? We know that everyone here advises not to frontload them but 28days doesn't seem long enough to organise them, with everything else, getting time off work, the time of the month :animal-pig:, etc, etc? all advice gratefully received! many thanks!
  12. Thank you so much arrumac for answering me! we went for175 because we don't know where we would like it. Do you think that I could still apply for S S after 1 July? Or will all be Skillselect and therefore tougher? I.e. the Vic. Government released their list on 19 March and my occupation is on it, it is also on the WA site, although they change theirs monthly. Is that good indication that they'll leave mine on the DIAC Sol? I really want tobe there...it is so hard! :elvis: Thank you very much to all who read and reply, most grateful!!
  13. I didn't have a clue about the possibility that my profession could be off the SOL in july 2012, and then I could drop to cat 5. Can I go for 175 and 176 at the same time? sorry to be thick but SS visas won't be available after July 2012, correct? i will all be EOI, right? help please! Thank you!! What other options could I have if already lodged 175? Thank you again, feeling deflated here....
  14. Hi, that doesn't sound good! So, if I apply and my occupation is removed, then would they still give the chance to go for SS or wouldn't have to be the Skillslelect my last hope? I wish I'd known earlier I have looked online and mine is flagged, also found that the 2012 list will be published mid2012. any one with more info please? thanks very much.
  15. Thank you very much for your answe Dibdibbler. Good luck to you
