Going to harrogate on a whim.
Who knows who I might meet
Harrogate is not all it's cracked up to be believe me.
-
Yep go for it

Can't agree about public transport. I find it excellent in Melbourne. 1 hour commute isn't very long, the trains do have to go through many suburbs, just like in the UK, you can easily commute for that long. It's just Melbourne is very big almost like two cities combined for distance. Many friends in UK commute for nearly two hours and its getting worse every day.

Poor Yorkshire people have to put up with rude and inconsiderate cyclists clogging up their narrow roads.
-
Think carefully before you go back, is it really worth the upheaval and stress. Just sayingbut if you're 100% sure about it then good luck.,

Well it would be no fun anywhere really would it, not just the UK. True, it would be awful but this prospect should not stop nor prevent somebody who needs to do what they need to do. I faced the prospect of being jobless and homeless when I came home (in fact I was!) but this still did not stop me and my family returning. Because I knew it would only be a matter of time before things worked out. It always does, somehow. If we didn't (I had a job and a home within 2 months of arriving home) I'd still be there in a pit of misery! Sorry I have gone of course from OP (who I really feel for) but I'd say don't let these matters (jobless & homeless) be an obstacle for anyone who faces this reality.
For people with children I sometimes feel it is irresponsible to take them away from their home and put them at risk of hardship. Things don't always work out. I'm proof of that.

Well a holiday in UK is a lot different to living there, catching up with friends all other the country without any work pressures is bliss.

I Can't believe we went back

We made that mistake too!!! Literally within about a week of landing we knew we had made a huge mistake!! We return may 2015, can't come quick enough!!!
I don't know what happened with me. It was going so fast, my wife pushing us to sell the house and everything to go back, after all wed built here. Jobs and house everything. then arrived back in UK, thinking what the hell have I done. Worst feeling ever!!!!

Good luck

Absolutely agree 100%. Only took me 3 months to realise id done the single most stupid thing of my life. Gave up a fantastic home in a lovely suburb, great career, to be unemployed and sick as a dog in UK.
-
If you get the dream hous in a nice suburb life can be very very good.
-
Carlton is a lovely area to be in.
-
There are some nice areas around Rowville if you want a small commute on the Monash freeway. Other areas further out are more affordable but more expensive. Look towards Packenham etc for commuting by train. The bayside area is very desirable but expensive.
Good Luck

Being jobless and homeless in UK is no fun.

The grass isn't greener believe me. Think about being stuck indoors during the long winter months in UK. Think about what you're giving up here too.
-
The market is terrible at the moment. If you have a good job hang onto it.
-
Think carefully, its a big decision going back. Don't rush into it, maybe have a holiday first.
-
I'm not sure it is a better life back in UK mate. My advice is you have to work out how things can be better now for you mate. Going back to UK without a job is suicide especially if you decide you can't settled back there.
I'm not sure what your living circumstance are like but I think if youre wife is not wanting to go back them it can't be too bad.
-
Don't go back, its miserable in England.
-
My wife destroyed my marriage cause she lied to me. Moving back to the UK was the worst thing that ever happened to me after loving the Aussie dream

Size of country, area and or population really has nothing to do with it, but if you insist then Antarctica is pretty big with a low population to boot! they could bypass Australia as they bypass other counties to get to Aus in the 1st place, the illegal immigrants that is, legal ones should always be welcome when coming through the correct channels.
I'm not condoning illegal immigration but the campaign itself. It just smells of racism IMO as they have to drill home that we simply can't have a single illegal immigrant entering the country. Why make such an election issue out of it ? You can have an immigration policy without making it an election issue. Its just insensitive.

Why did I go back to England ? I keep asking myself that question
