  1. Hi All!

I’m now in the final stages of putting my parents 143 application together. I went up to my brothers yesterday and picked up the information I think I need, I guess I’m just after a bit of reassurance that I’ve got enough to prove that he is ‘settled’.

He arrived in Australia on 28 November 2009 on a working holiday visa, was granted a 457 visa on 5 August 2010 and his permanent visa on 2 March 2011.

What I’ve got so far are payslips dated Feb 2010, bank statements from July 2010, bills from his rental from September 2010, his car regos from when he bought one in February 2010 and in May 2011, car insurance policy from August 2011, health insurance from August 2010, mortgage statement (bought his house in May 2011), vet bills from 2011 for their dog, his tax income statements from August 2010 and August 2011, recent payslips, recent credit card statement.

It’s this ‘2 year’ thing that I’m worried about. Should I wait to lodge until August which is when he got his 457? Is that better than when he was on his WHV?

I don't know how important it is that I have to show he is settled from 2 years ago from now - so June 2010, when if this isn't going to be looked at for another 12 months he will have owned his house for 2 years by then. Just want to make sure that I don't mess up my parents application for the sake of waiting a couple of months.

I was also wondering whether it was worth writing a sort of timeline/explanation to go along with all the documents I’ve got? As on the sponsorship form it doesn’t ask for addresses in Australia or anywhere you can explain why you believe you were settled from a certain point.

Any advice on offer would be appreciated!

  3. If you are looking at applying for a 143 visa for your parents and you have only just got your visa then you seriously need to read booklet No 3. With regards to your sister, enter the truth. She is applying under a student visa.

I know what you're getting at, but my brother is the main sponsor has he's been in Australia nearly 3 years, just means now we have PR they have 2 out of 3 as resident in Australia.

  4. Hi All,

I wonder if anyone here has an experience on 'non-migrating dependants'? Just been filling in my parents 143 application forms and also the dependant form for my sister who is 19. She is due to start University in Perth on the 20th of July so is flying out next month on a 3 year student visa. So she is financially dependant on my parents still but is not being included in their visa application as the VAC charge for a dependant over 18 is too much for them. The idea is that she will get an environmental science degree at Perth Uni, get a graduate visa and then be able to apply independantly for her own visa.

Any idea what we should put for why she is not migrating with them? Is it just a case of putting that she will be in Oz already on a student visa? My dad wants to put that the VAC is too expensive, but not sure that would be the right answer!

    Thanks

  5. Congrats Nicolac34!

    Was it through an agent?

Yeah we used an agent, was submitted DRC and we had a note on it saying it was urgent as I couldn't work for my employer due to the 6 month limit on my WHV being up and the fact I was leaving to go to the UK tomorrow for a couple of weeks and it couldn't be granted whilst we are away. Don't know whether it helped or was considered - but it was certainly quicker than we thought it would be!

  6. Good luck everyone! I got my RSMS granted yesterday after lodging on the 24th of April. I didn't get an acknowledgement letter for some reason, just went straight to grant.

Couldn't believe it only took two weeks!

  7. I'm quite confused by the timelines everyone has - are they taking longer because they are offshore and non-DRC?

My agent said that DRC Onshore RSMS applications are taking 2-4 weeks to be processed at the moment. Is there any evidence of that from the people on here?

  8. Hi everyone!

I just wondered if I could pick your brains on the 143 vs 173 parent visas. My parents are at the beginning stages of their application (waiting for my PR to come through, my brother will be the sponsor as he's been here since Nov 2009) and we've been discussing the merits of which visa to go for.

They like the idea of spreading the cost of the visa as it would give them more money to come out to Australia with and wouldn't be such a major struggle to raise the money in the short-term, as they'd be relying on the sale of their house to fund the second VAC payment and obviously not being able to predict when their visa might be processed leaves them wondering what to do!

Dad was asking today whether or not being on the 173 temp parent visa would impact his ability to get a job and get a house - does anyone have any theory on this? My parents are currently 56 and 53 so would be wanting to work for probably another 10 years when they move out to Australia to offset the huge cost of moving and the exchange rate.

I'm sure I'll have endless more questions as we start this process, such as proving 'settled' which I'm trying to wrap my head around!

    Thanks

    Nicola
