  1. I'll be at the Republica on Sunday afternoon. I have just moved to Melbourne from the UK and been here nearly 2 months now. Spent much of that time in training with work so now its time to focus on my social scene and enjoy more of what Melbourne has to offer. Im male 44 so hope to meet some like minded folk to have a laugh with. Just one question, if anyone is in the Republica on Sunday how will i know who you are?
  2. i can sympathise with your situation Alison as i have just had to make the same decision just last week. I have a gorgeous burmese cat which i have also had since he was a kitten and for me the decision was much easier and that he is coming with me....no debate. By my reckoning i am looking at £2,500 costs involved which of course, it is very expensive but for the sake of a few grand to have your furbabies with you for the rest of your life i think will make you a much happier person for it, i think it will me. Looking at your list of expenses it seems you are going to find it tight for the first few years anyway, unfortunately not all people have fantastic jobs to walk into but i believe your back up plan is the sale of the house. I would say Ted & Dougal are worth the extra money involved and try to focus on the sale of your house which will help you make the best decision. I have just sold my house (still going through contract) after it beng on the market for 18 months. I spruced it up a bit, (spent £950) and re-advertised it with a discount price and a previous viewer came back to buy it. Yes i didnt get what i wanted for it, but all in all i am chuffed to have sold up as it gives me much better chance of making a good go of it in Oz and most importantly affording me the chance to take my gorgeous cat too. A very difficult decision Alison, and of course there will be sacrifices made but there are ways and means to get everything you want....best of luck and chin rubs all round ha
  3. From what i understand is that you can not apply for PR until after a minmum of 2 years service with 457.
  4. I have recently just completed the 457 application form and there is a question relating to previous convictions, so not sure if you have missed it or not although i am sure your agent would mention it if you have. But i agree with Shel and you should be honest with everyone otherwise you are likely to get found out. I also have a couple of convictions from many years ago but shouldnt be a problem as they are non agressive convictions which i think is what could cause problems. Good luck i am sure you will be fine:-)
  5. Hello Everyone, I've been viewing the posts for couple of weeks now picking up loads of useful information and advice so well done to everyone for passing on their experiences. Being currently a UK citizen, my situation is this, i have been offered a senior position within a large IT company in Melbourne who are prepared to sponsor me. From what i gather so far is i need a 457 Visa?? I am just waiting on contract approval from new employer before visa application will commence. Not sure of normal procedure and if my new employer will help with Visa requirements, i guess i will find out before end of the week. But if not and i need to do it at this end in the UK, is it best to use a UK or Oz based agent? Is there any pro's and cons for either, or does anyone think against agents? Agent or no Agent?? Any advice on which agents to consider and if it might be worth it for me would be much appreciated thank you:-)) a very excited Mike:-))
