  1. Hi Derren, Thank you for your reply. I worked for a small local company throughout my apprenticeship so I guess my apprenticeship was an informal one. I will be able to get a letter from the employer stating that I had worked for them and I also a letter from the trade school I went to. I did enquire with the JIB at one time about registration but they said I would have to do the NVQ level 3 along with the C&G 2391 inspection and testing course. For the previous ten years before coming to Oz I was self employed. I really should have brushed up on my quals. I hope these letters will help. I honestly thought if you had an OSTR from Vetassess, then you were deemed to have the appropriate skills to obtain a visa. I am going to send copies of my Licensed Electricians Assessment results also as I soon will have a Cert III in Electrotechnology. I'm not sure if this would be considered given that its an offshore general skills migration visa.
  2. Hi guys, I am looking for a bit of advice regarding the 175 visa and UK qualifications. Ive been in Oz for just over a year now, on my wifes 457 visa. I am currently employed as a sparky full time. I did the Vetassess practical on arrival, followed by the Licensed Electricians Assessment theory and practical exams shortly after. I am nearing completion of my year of eprofiling and hope to be applying for my A Grade license within the next month. Just before the end of June I applied for the 175 GSM visa. I have just been assigned a case officer. As part of my application I uploaded the certificates that I have which are the old City and Guilds Part 1 and 2 in Electrical Installation, which I completed back in the early 90's. The case officer has requested more evidence of trade qualifications "Please provide evidence of your apprenticeship/trade completion (i.e. relevant registration as aqualified electrican, trade certificate/card, apprenticeship certificate/card). Note: the certificates provided state completion of course components only." Starting to worry a bit now as I don't have a card as such and I was never JIB registered. Around that time everything changed to NVQ level 3. Has anyone had the same problem, or submitted a visa application with the 236 parts 1 and 2 ?
  3. Hi guys Has anyone gained their license through the Vetassess route in Victoria by completion of a logbook. I've completed my Vetassess practical in July 2011, have been in employment since August 2011 in Melbourne. I currently have a supervised workers license. But I'm having serious problems trying to get signed up for eprofiling / logbook to document the work I do on site . I don't think the system is availablle yet in VIC. I have also completed my LEA and gap training in a local tafe. I've tried through the tafe, through EPIC and directly with the Eprofiling to get this set up. No one seems to know anything about it. When I first applied to Vetassess I was advised of the route I needed to take to gain my license and now that I've spent all this money to get to this stage I've hit a brick wall. To say this is frustrating us a complete understatement . Has any1 had the same problem ?
  4. Hi all With regard to Electricians for the 175 or 176 visa is the Vetassess practical test sufficient or do you need to go through TRA. I called immigration to query this and was told that I need to go through TRA for my skills assessment . I am currently in OZ VIC as a dependant on my wifes 457 visa but we ultimately would like to obtain PR. I competed my Vetassess in July and I've almost completed my LEA to gain my certificate III in electrotechnology. I just need to complete my log book and then hopefully apply for the Unrestricted License. I explained all this to Immigration and the lady insisted that even if I have all my exams and even my full license I still need my skills assessed by the TRA. Surely this can't be right ? I've read a lot of the other post and a lot of guys have come the Vetassess route. Has something changed in the past year regarding this ?
  5. Hi Guys, Ive been reading this forum very intently for the past year or so before I made the move to Oz from the UK. Im currently in VIC , working as a sparky. I am close to completing my final exams as part of the Licensed Electricians Assessment with just the practical component to complete. I came here with an OSTR through Vetassess and applied for my provisional license straight away on arrival, which was July 2011. I am here as a dependant on my partners 457 visa. i was lucky to gain employment as VIC is notoriously difficult for unlicensed sparkys to find work. As part of the requirement for Vetassess electricians in VIC , I have to complete an eprofiling logbook to gain my A Grade License. This facility is not set up yet through the training provider (EPIC). I have been querying this through one of the tutors at the TAFE I attend , who has been very helpful, although they keep saying it will be set up soon. Has anyone gained their license this way? Im curious to know if anyones in the same boat. I think the logbook may have been hand written before and maybe this is a transition. Ok so that brings me on to my next question. We want to gain PR eventually and I made a few enquiries today from Immigration. I must say that im totally bemused after the conversation. So we want to apply for the 175 visa before July 2012 as the whole system changes then. The application will be through me as an Electrician. Now I know there are lots of different routes guys are taking to gain their license through TRA , ARTC and Vetassess like myself. As part of the 175 there needs to be a skill assessment to show that you have knowledge/skills in your trade. I hope to have my A Grade Electrical License within the next couple months before we lodge our application. So i explained this to Immigration and she insisted that even if I am a FULLY QUALIFIED , FULLY LICENSED , A GRADE ELECTRICIAN , I will need to have my skills assessed by TRA! This is totally absurd. I asked her 3-4 times over and over if she was mistaken but apparently not. Am I missing something here? Any feedback would be appreciated
