  1. Many thanks for your rapid responses!!!!!
  2. I recently read some where that it was better to wait 8 - 10 days before registering with Medicare to give them chance for your arrival to filter down to them or something of that nature, my question is this............. When I came to validate my visa in Feb on a 2 week holiday would that count as 8 - 10 day wait, I am making the permanent move next week not sure if I wait or go straight in to register?
  3. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I am deeply offended by your comments, I can find my way around a fuse board with great ease!! And have attached a photo of my most recent project.......
  4. Many thanks for all your reply's, Don't know where I got the idea they were 2 pronged plugs.
  5. Sorry to sound ignorant (not an electrician) the plugs are molded on, if it's just a case of cutting plug off and re-wiring to new plug will I not be left with a spare wire? (two prongs on OZ plug three on Uk plug), like I say not hot on my wiring my wife will testify to that!!.
  6. We are considering taking 3 flat screen TV's to OZ, however would we have to plug them into a travel adapter permanently or is their some long term solution?
  7. Cheers Snifter, That's the news I was after!!!
  8. Can anyone please tell me if I need to take my family's doctors notes to Perth, I called into the Doctors today to inquire about preparing our medical notes for next month and the lady on reception said the fee would be £50 for each, I was wondering if Medicare would require these notes or the fact that we all past our Medical to get the Visa would be sufficient. My kids are 18, 16 and 5 I have a feeling my son who is 5 may need them for his new school but not sure about daughters, one will be going to Uni and the other a TAFE course. Any help would be much appreciated,
  9. Hi Danny, I just read your blog and was wondering why you have lived there for a few years and still don't have many friends is it hard to make alliances in school or out of school? This is one of my concerns. The reason I ask is we are moving over in July to Mullaloo just round the corner from you and I have two daughters aged 18 and 16 and I'm hoping they will find friends through Tafe and University at Fremantle. Cheers Dean.
  10. That is what worries me, by the time I get there in July all that will be left is a job holding a wooden sign in the air pointing to free car park spaces!!!!
  11. HI, Cant remember where I read this article this week but it stated that in Perth wa approx 1500 people arrive every week and this was having a big affect on the rental prices. I was wondering are they including holiday makers who are visiting for 2 weeks or are these Migrants? And does anyone know how many people leave Perth WA each week, I suppose what I am trying to find out is can Perth handle this influx or is it at breaking point???
  12. Thanks for all your comments! We are planning on renting for 6 months in July before we buy. Had a look at Waikiki which "bensdad" suggested and read some positive comments about this area and its also on the train line which is a big plus, I have read many conflicting reports on "hoons and bogans" some say loads hanging around while others say lived there many years and never seen any! I am talking about Waikiki and Rockingham areas, Has any one had experiences of these characters? After reading some reports you get the mental image of a scene from the 1979 american cult film "Warriors".
  13. As I said earlier If I purchased a property there it would leave me with a small mortgage and a modern looking house with a nice size garden, I take on board your comments though, so are there any other nice areas which have good transport links and selling 4 x 2 size houses for around $450000, the new builds look like dolls houses with only enough room in the garden for a patio set.
  14. I am considering moving to Ellenbrook in July with my family (wife and 3 kids, 18, 16 and 6), I was reading reviews on this area all week and nearly all were positive apart from the lack of transport issues!, this did not concern me too much as we could work around that problem. Then this morning I read someones comment about it being a rough area and it has sort of drowned out all the positive hype, I know most areas have a nice part and a dodgy part but was just wanting peoples views on this area please and does anyone have views on schools. I am coming over next month to validate visa but just wanted a heads up!
  15. Hi fifi69, We are looking to buy a 4 x 2 house, if we can get one for around $420000 we will only have a small mortgage which will take the pressure off from finding one of those $120000 jobs. My job is a Metal Machinist which will bring around $65000 and wife is a Medical secretary so hope there is plenty of work for oh. Good to know about employers not too concerned about the travelling situation.
  16. Hi, Need some advice please, me and my family are moving to Perth in July and after much research we quite like the thought of living in Ellenbrooke, however I am aware that it is a little isolated and was concerned about it effecting my chances with say getting a new job. The sort of jobs I am gunning for are around Kewdale, Canningvale and Welshpool basically Industrial estate areas, this commute is around 38mins away, is this about the norm for Perth and would a potential employer not even bat an eye lid, or would he prefer to employ "Joe Bloggs" who lives on the doorstep??. The reason for Ellenbrooke is it seems to have everything for a young family and the house prices up there mean I would only have a small mortgage, I am aware it has its transport issues but struggling to find the perfect area unless you have a $1.3 million budget.
  17. Try this sight it may be of some help. http://www.aussiemove.com/costofliving/
  18. Great post! Can I just ask how much did it cost to ship cars over? as we are undecided as to leave them here or take both ours next spring. Cars look very expensive over there.
  19. What a refreshing change to read a blog like this! I am making the jump in July 2013 and after reading many horror stories on this forum its nice to also hear the a more upbeat account, I think this site is without dought a realy useful tool in finding info on various subjects but after reading several stories about how people are struggling to make ends meet and how the country is not what they expected I am relieved once in a while to read possitive posts.
  20. Hi sorry to but in, but we are planning a move next July to Perth and My only fear at the moment is me and wifey dont get a job within 6 weeks, just wondered how hard you have found it and if you dont mind me asking what jobs are you applying for?
  21. Hi sh3p69, Just wondering why to avoid Butler and Clarkson? we have been researching for areas to live for almost 10 months now and always thought that these places were nice areas, we really want a nice and safe area for kids with easy commute to Perth shops. I was told by our agent to avoid Balga and East Perth as these are crime hot-spots. Does anyone know what Canning vale is like as this is ideally situated for my career.
  22. Bit late but really pleased for you!!!!
  23. Big congrats to all who have received their visa in the last two weeks, just come back from two week holiday and noticed some good results!!
  24. Big thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I have kept away from sites such as Seek and Real Estate as I Have found it so frustrating not having the Visa granted you always fear the worse case, but today I am back on the hunt!! we don't go out until next July due to daughters finishing GCSE and A levels, But I am planning a recce for March mainly to Validate Visa (expense I could do without). It would be helpful to hear from the ones moving soon about some of your experiences and how you are all coping.
