  1. Part of the application for import approval is to declare all trips outside of your home country as it will count against you having owned it for 12 months. You also need to prove you've used your car during those 12 months ie. service work, invoices etc. I don't know if the rules are different for temp visas holders though.
  2. Hmmmm, to me those look like luggage/baggage hooks. I've got some of those in my car boot, they pivot up right?
  3. Not wanting to contradict IC on this but I have an interest in these as originally I was thinking of shipping my 2008 FL2 HSE. In Oz, they do not sell any lower spec models, only SE & HSE. Going off Redbook, a 2007 SE diesel has a book price average $26,500. A GS is two specs lower than the SE and with above average miles, I wouldn't value it at $50k but closer to $20k. Thought it was best to point this out now rather than you ship it over and find out later.
  4. There's no issue with having isofix fittments on the car but you need to get child restraint anchors fitted as compulsory. Isofix on their own is not sufficient to pass the safety requirements for vehicles. There's a whole argument about which is safer but currently that's the way it is.
  5. I can tell you, it won't be the value if you plain converted £10k to $, and it won't be the market value in Aus of $47k, it will be somewhere in between, my guess would be $22k.
  6. If the clocks, speedo etc don't show both km and miles, then I believe you need to make some changes. Best to source parts over in UK in readiness. As a rough estimate, expect to pay something like 35-40% of the value of your vehicle in costs to get it over here. The GST (10%) and duty (5%) are based on the 'landed' value customs have decided which is usually less than the market value of the car in Aus but more than a straight £ -> $ conversion. Fees to get through customs and quarantine can total over $1000. My advice since you are looking to buy, is get the newest, prestigious model you can afford, as then it would make it financially more viable, unless you're making a heart decision. An Audi RS6/R8 would be brilliant but a Porsche 911 would be the better bet for 2 years down the line. Once I finally get my car on the road, I'm going to provide a breakdown of costs that applied for me.
  7. Not that I know of, probably didn't help being over the xmas holidays but I'm not sure if it really landed on 25th anyway. I never confirmed that date, I was just happy it's in the country at least. I'll probably chase again next week.
  8. In case people are wondering on timelines, this is me so far: 31 Oct 2011 - car picked up for shippers 8 Nov 2011 - on the boat and on its way 25 Dec 2011 - landed in Sydney apparently 12 Jan 2012 - customs invoice arrives 25th Jan 2012 - still waiting for quarantine clearance I'll provide updates as and when
  9. Got my customs invoice through now. Is quarantine a separate process as I thought customs/quarantine were bunched together. There's only Duty, GST, Entry charge, Entry & Query memo, Air-con Release Memo on the invoice.
  10. I thought on the bmw, there's a brake pad wear indicator and the computer tells you when its due. What was wrong with the windscreen?
  11. Only you can decide if it's worth shipping, check out some local values for your car (redbook) then guestimate about spending 30-35% of your £11k worth to get it shipped & through customs (not including insurance, registration)
  12. Hi all, I've been looking for information and stumbled here so I hope I can get some answers. Apologies if they been answered but I did search and couldn't find an answer. Basically, I got import approval and the car is currently in a container on its way over, another month or so. Port will be Sydney, and it'll be for NSW. What I don't actually know and finding it difficult to get info on, is once it lands and I've paid the customs, duty, cleaning costs etc what happens next? Assuming I have insurance, I need registering/registration plates, where do I get them? Can I still drive my car from the port to get them? What's the inspection thing mentioned somewhere on this thread? Am I allowed to drive the car to inspection or are they mobile? Thanks and I'm sure there may be other questions. Phil
