  1. Thanks Marisa. The tax thing wasn't something I'd considered.
  2. Hi, I am Irish and was working in Dublin for 5 years before moving to Oz permanently in 2013. Is it possible to bring over any pension I have accrued in Ireland and use it towards a deposit for a house in Oz or is it locked until I am 70? And how do I go about transferring? I've had trouble finding clear info on the web. Thanks in advance, Dec
  3. Thanks Andy, We got credit through Harvey Norman to buy a fridge, but it was limited. We don't have assets or debt (except the fridge) and I have full time work since July, but we have only been renting since late November. I think once time passes we'll have no problem, but foir now it's a waiting game. Just not sure how long. Cheers, Dec
  4. Hi, I tried to organise credit here using Ezi LEase, but was told there was not enough info to give me a rating. I asked what was needed, the man on the phone said he "can't tell me that" and was generally unhelpful. As it turns out, their interest rates are very bad anyway so I'm better off. But how does it work here (NSW)? I have been here since March 2013. I've been in fulltime permanent work since July 2013. I've been in a permanent address since Nov 2013. I'm also a permanent resident (Returning) as I was first resident (Defacto) in 2002 and we are now married with a son. So my question is... When can I expect to be able to get a credit rating? Thanks in advance, Dec
  5. Hi, can someone tell me when the school term starts in Feb and when it will be possible to enroll our son? Is it possible to enroll him before term starts so he is there from the beginning? We've been here since December but a change in circumstances mean we are not in the area we had planned to be (in Dubbo rather than Central Coast) so we have been caught on the back foot. Thanks, D
  6. Thanks guys. I'll follow up. Happy Christmas.

    Lost pp

Hi, All packed up and ready to go. Furniture and everything in container on it's way.... And when I say everything, I mean everything... including my passport. So I have to replace my lost passport. Does anyone know if my (spousal) visa will need to be applied for again? Is it linked to me or the passport? (There's no actual printed visa in my passport; it's all electronic apparently.) I'm due to fly out in 2 months. Thanks, d

    Flour

Thanks all for the replies, websites, and suggestions (weevels, uck). It seems like flour is still pretty expensive, buit I don't know the price of bread. To give you an idea of where I'm coming from, we paid £45 ($70ish) for 25kg. We're looking at $150 for the same amount in Oz. Home made bread is too good to let go so we'll just have to adjust. :-)

    Flour

Spelt has a higher amount of protein, but is also easier to digest. I think it is less likely to impact IBS but am not sure. I would say though that I bloat less with spelt bread than normal bread.

    Flour

Hi, We do a lot of our own baking here (Ireland) and buy Spelt flour in bulk to last us a few months, and it's pretty reasonable. We were looking at Oz prices and they were outrageous in comparison. Does anyone else bake? Where are you ordering your flour from? Online or local? Any good tips would be great.
  11. Thanks again Craig, We've decided to leave it. I think we can get something comparable when we get to Oz without breaking the bank, and really this car is just a car, so there's no emotional attachment.
  12. Thanks Craig, The Container charge seems to be roughly the same as Roro. When you add the extra Australian costs, it seems that it wouldn't be worth it for us. So going by the original post in this thread, our car would be a category C. Would you agree or am I adding it wrong? Thanks again.
  13. Hi, I hope you can still do this for Euro prices. We're shipping from Ireland and the car will be in a container with our furniture (40ft instead of 20ft for furniture alone). 14. Hi, We're shipping a 3 bedroom houseload of furniture to Oz with us. Can anyone give me a rough idea of storage costs once we get there. Very rough is fine. Thanks
