  1. Hey ToOz, Millie Hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas. Good to hear from you guys. Am still here in Perth. built a house in Butler and moved in early October. How are things with you ToOz? Millie how much time before the PR gets processed? and hope things work out in time.
  2. hey leanie. good to hear from you. hows the little one doing? I had a release from the 2 year obligation but am staying on. Now that we are building a house the decision is made in a way. maybe a few years down the line who knows. at the moment perth it is and actually we like it here
  3. the program is a part time program. probably will take six years to complete. Hopefully that should help kickstart a career here. Teaching is great for the soul but not that great for the pocket. would have still stuck with teaching if it wasnt a six month contract gig. its not very healthy worrying whether there will be a job every six months or not. Hey Leanie good to hear that things are well in Broome. I drove to Gingin today and saw the town and it was quaint and beautiful. I wonder of Broome is like that.
  4. hey good to see folks back in action here. How is Broome treating you Leanie? Hope its good out there. and good to hear from you Killara. glad things are going well for you. I am thinking of studying law. have a deferred admission offer in one of the unis here for degree program. have discovered ironically that HR may be the profession that has the most systemic discrimination against migrants. so have to think of other career options now.
  5. Hey ToOz Good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the breakup man. Hope your heart's on the mend now. Did you get a good tax accountant to sort out the ATO issues on overseas income? Economy is bound to be scary but you in a better place than most people so count your lucky stars mate! Am building a home in Butler - NOR. Construction is due to start this week and If all goes well by September the house should be ready to move in. My dream home would have been in South Perth. But wouldn't it be able to afford it in my lifetime!
  6. been sometime since I came here and I see everyone's lying low. Hope alls well.
  7. It is worth noting that if you can stump only 5% of the deposit. you will have to pay for Lenders Mortgage Insurance which is capitalized with the loan. So hypothetically if you brought a property worth 100,000 you would get a loan of 95000+ LMI which might be say 1000 dollars. So you will end up paying interest for 96K. So there is catch with the 5% deposit plans.
  8. The prices continue to go up and will do so for sometime until there is supply opening up. right now affordable new homes can be had 30 to 40 kms away from Perth. As an alternative you may want to consider smaller lots or apartments near the city. Not too many choices unless you got money to blow.
  9. hey smithinoz. PM me your number..changed my phone and lost a few numbers
  10. My wife and I are 30 something professionals with no kids and we have loved every minute of our life here in Perth. We find there is something to do every weekend. For those who complain that Perth has no culture or history, maybe you should actually get out more and visit the museums and art galleries around. If your complaint is about culture you only have to look at the new art that is coming out or artists coming out of Perth. make a trip down to Central Institute in Northbridge, if you could manage to do that, and go visit the gallery there to see the work that young artists are creating. If Perth does not have enough culture already for you, then watch it being created or better yet participate! much better than whinging online anyday! Perth maybe small but it has lot of character. Go visit Kings Park, take a tour with the guides and listen to them speak about native flora and you realize how beautiful it can be... go visit Northbridge on a sunday morning and enjoy Yum Cha if you are in to that! Go visit the cultural centre and catch up with the various events and festivals that they keep putting up. All you need in Perth are friends, good food and good bottles of local wine and you weekends are set! atleast it is for us. I still havent found time for the beaches yet!
  11. have no clue why they put HR Managers and Advisors on the skills shortage list. The market is flooded with HR guys who have been laid off and the market is cliquey anyways!
  12. heylo people! I know its been a long time since I have been here. Works been keeping me busy and the missus has joined me here in Perth. Leanie congratulations and good to see that things are well with you and the baby! Congratulations Nishi on the PR! Good to see you guys getting along. I have been making progress as well. its been now more than a year and it has been a roller coaster! As far as developments go, I put down deposit on a piece of land in Butler up north. I was looking at Wellard initially but made a complete about turn and ended up North! I am going to build with new generation homes who came recommended. Building a 4X2. It is rather big but then with our plans to start a family soon I guess it makes sense to build with the future in mind. How are you guys getting along?
  13. I think you can to the Department of Trade and Commerce( you willl have to check the right name) over at St George's terrace and they can certify documents. I guess the other option is what ToOz said (frankly the more convenient one). Been busy with work and havent been here much lately. I moved to South Perth. The rent is high but it is a one bedroom. The missus will be relocating in July so getting ready for that. ToOz: have you looked at houses and whats your take? where are you looking to buy? I plan to start looking in a year or so
  14. Hey Leanie! sorry been busy with work. Its enjoyable. got a group of students as diverse as it can be 17 to 30 year olds, local and international. Its an interesting experience. How are you doing in terms of health? hope you and the baby are well. As for news, the missus is coming in for a break. thought we would go to Dunsborough for the weekend but it turns out that most weekends are already booked. plus I still dont have a license. flunked the driving test and havent applied for a retest yet. So I am looking for options nearer to Perth and accessible by public transport. havent found much though. Suggestions are welcome!
  15. you wont be able to get any rentals until you reach Perth. Until such time that you get a rental you should look at short term accomodation like serviced apartments or shared accommodation You can look at sites like staywest.com.au or airbnb.com.au
