  2. Hi there.... myself and my Partner(both 40..just!!) have just moved to Newcastle after 2 years in Melbourne. My partner works away quite a bit, so I'm just wondering if anybody meets up regularly, or if anyone fancies a coffee/wine. also not working at the mo so can always meet in the day. Living in merewether but happy to travel. thanks louise :-)
  3. Hi we have just moved to merewether, and love being 5 mins from the beach. i have sent you a message :-)
  4. Hi Kate....thanks for your reply. Sounds like you've managed to settle in well. Still early days for us, third week in but partner was away working in Adelaide last week and will be in Perth for 9 days from next week so not managing to explore quite as much as would have liked and not always fun to do it in your own. did you move over with family/partner? Are you working? If anyone local fancies a coffee/wine at any point I'm always up for that :-) louise
  5. Hi..... thank you so much for the info, will look forward to checking these places out. Seems very strange at the mo as had to look for place to live etc whilst still in Sydney so hoping we've picked the right place! thank you :-)
  6. Hi BB Many thanks for your reply its always good to get some info from people who live in the area, hoping we wil settle in well all seems a bit strange at the moment!! Thank you :-)
  7. Hi we arrived in Oz 6 wks ago, been staying with family in Sydney now moved to mentone this week. We are a couple in late 30's like to eat out/drink/beach life. Any tips would be great and any get togethers organised? Thank you :-) Louise
  8. Hi everyone.... thanks for the info on places/areas. Etc its always nice to hear from people in the know........ well we're on the final stretch now, 4 more days to go!! Good luck with the rest of your planning....I'm hoping this is the hardest part, can't wait to get on the plane and chill out with a singapore sling :-) louise x
  9. I haven't sent my cv off yet but will be over the next wk(if get time) I was getting really confused when researching it seems childcare in oz is having a shake up, come 2014 everyone needs to be cert 111 trained or above. When I contacted randstad a while ago they advised me to get qualifications assessed(BTEC National Diploma in early childhood)first to get the actual BTEC level, this was done through AEI NOOSR and took about 10wks to come back, you can get this done in OZ though, and then secondly to get the early years part asseessed through ACECQA, which as yet I haven't done as only just recieved certificate to say BTEC is equivalent to Cert IV. again this can all be done in oz and can still work but prob as unqualified which is a few dollars less an hour, again who you speak to probably advises different things so its all a bit confusing! but I thought better to be on the safe side and have the paperwork incase I see a permanent job to apply for...... hope this hasn't confused you more :-) louise
  10. Morning.... yeah I'm sure well change our minds on location the more we research, looking forward to exploring and finding somewhere suitable....Berwick is one our places to explore too!! i haven't sent any cvs off yet but did agency work whilst backpacking 10years ago for select(now randstad) I contacted them a while ago, and will register is Sydney when I arrive and then when we get settled in Melbourne can transfer details over.have you had qualifications assessed yet? louise
  11. Hi petals thank you so Much for the info.....yes after researching the real estate agents I thought it looked like Brighton etc were pretty expensive. Just booked to stay 4 days in Brighton the 2nd wk we arrive which will give us a good base to look round the area. My partner will be working in Hallam. I will be doing agency childcare work to begin with so will need somewhere with good transport links. thank you again....its always nice to hear advice from someone in the know! louise
  12. We also don't know anybody in Melbourne, strange feeling isn't it! Paul will be working in a place called Hallam. We are looking at the Bayside area I think, Frankston/Brighton/ Hampton area but without ever having been its hard to say. We are having 4 days in Melbourne the wk after we arrive in Sydney to have a look around.....think finding somewhere to live will be the hardest part! keep in touch, let me know how you get on :-) louise
  13. Thank you Sharon....luckily my parents and sister now all live In Sydney so in theory should be making the move less stressfull, I admire people who take the plunge having no family out there!! Hope all goes well with your final plans and see you on the other side!! louise :-)
