I just received a CCJ at my parents address for £500 for a debt maybe 2 years old. Unsure where it’s come from.

I have no plans on returning home. Can they enforce this debt? Shall I call them and tell them I live in Australia so they don’t turn up? Can I go bankrupt in the UK from here? (I have no valuable assets) I’m also in no position to pay it back at the moment, and would rather not pay it back in the future.

    Thanks

It costs £680 to go bankrupt, so it would be cheaper to pay the debt, they have no way of enforcing civil debt from the U.K in Australia, and even if there was, they wouldn't bother, its 500 quid 🙄, you will need to protect your parents from being bothered though, you could write, not call, with your Australian address, see what they say, first thing is. make them prove that you do actually owe them something.

A Canadian woman in her 50s has died after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine and developing a blood clot in her brain.

I'm waiting for Pfizer myself. What is the hurry ? We have no covid in the community. I doubt we will have major outbreaks again. The odd small manageable situation like in WA will happen from time to time.

Watch out for that myocarditis then, or portal vein thrombosis.

  3. I've lived in Australia for over a decade in the past, moved back and forward a couple of times, been back in the U.K for six years now, I wouldn't contemplate ever living in Australia again if I wasn't married to an Australian. not that there is anything wrong with Australia. I'm just very happy where I am.

  4. My sister in law sent a birthday gift to my wife, from Melbourne to the UK, as it was tracked she could see where it was, it didn't leave Australia for more than a month, it arrived at our house about a week after it left Australia.

  5. 5 months is a very short time, and now would be a really bad time to return to the U.K, maybe you could treat the next 18 moths or so as a kind of working holiday , in the meantime try do all the great things there are to do in Australia , they may still want to come home after that, they may not, if they do, then you will need to have that conversation, I'm guessing he is feeling trapped right now, maybe he could relax and enjoy things a bit more if you reassured him it doesn't have to be forever,  even if you do come back after a couple of years, you can do it knowing you gave it a good go.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

It was at time of booking for the first leg, then later on different airline after layover had most of our info but not the passports so had an email asking to put that in again. Then yeah I woke up at 3am thinking shit, hang on when was I meant to put the kids Aussie passport info in, rather than their British ones (given both legs are technically to the UK). God I can't wait to get there, maybe then I can actually sleep properly. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah, that's what I did, they asked for passport details when we booked the tickets, without thinking I put our UK passport details in, when we checked in at the airport I showed them the UK and Aussie passports, they changed them on their system at the check in.

API = Advanced passenger info which I had to put on flight bookings. I used our UK passport info from Melb to Doha, Doha to LHR legs. But then I recently remembered Aussie passport holders have to leave on Aussie passports, hence my confusion? (My two kids have aussie passports, as per the "have to have an Aussie passport to leave Australia" rule )

I'll have both on me anyway, just wasn't sure if I need to change info with airline? for Melb to Doha part? >.<

I wouldn't worry too much, make sure you have both passports with you, if you do need to change it, they could probably make the necessary changes when you check in, happened to me once.

I wouldn't waste any time/energy thinking about it.  It's not going to happen.   The Australian government is paranoid about who it lets in - and there are many from the UK it does not want here.  They made that very clear when Tony Abbott started blathering on about it when the Brexit result was first known.

Spot on. it's never going to happen.
