  1. An agent will cost you around 1500 pounds, which is a total waste of money. They are basically the middleman between applicants and your assigned Australian government officer who will assess your application and offer you advice anyway. You'll have to do all the legwork anyway eg. providing documents (birth certificates, certified passport copies, employment references (demand list http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/updated-sol.pdf'>http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/updated-sol.pdf ), police checks, marriage certs etc). Its actually a very straightforward process, it just takes a bit of reading and organisation, look at http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/ and apply online. After submitting our application, it took about 9 months to hear back from the migration office in Canberra and then we were granted residency through a skilled migrate visa. As far as the points system goes, theres also a checklist on the australia embassy website; http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-test.pdf . You have to obtain the threshold, otherwise there's no point applying. Good luck
  2. Workwise you'd be fine. There's a lot of mining companies that need HR people, which is well paid, but as the person stated above, there's a lot of families and couples in Perth and the city doesn't seem very orientated towards singletons. Best thing would be a shared house to meet friends and see how you go.
  3. Fremantle- its by the sea, easy walking to cafes, bars and restaurants. There's always something going on; festivals, live music etc.. its got character, historic part of Perth, a bit bohemian and arty, hospitals are nearby, great place to be
  4. Areas within 10 mins of Freo, are East Fremantle (nice upmarket nr the river and plenty of parks), North Fremantle (exclusive by river and sea, so will pay premium) White Gum Valley (expensive for location, but houses with character and very close to freo), Bicton (again by the river, older houses), melville (east of freo, further inland, but good price houses without paying the premium to live by the sea). If you have working in Fremantle, i would recommend definitely residing in the vicinity, because the commute further away can be a nightmare. All of these areas are within your budget, safe and have local shops close by.
  5. There's Eukanuba (expensive, but down-rated), Royal Canins (good one though quite expensive), Advance (good choice) as most have said, Pedigree Chum (although wouldn't buy cos they put sugar and taurine in the ingredients). Advance (biscuits) seems to be the one that a lot of dogs like and average price:)
  6. Hey there, Can anyone recommend a good mortgage broker in the Fremantle area? Thanks,
