  1. Hi Linday and Mike,

Does anyone know what the current processing time is for the CPV? I have heard it being mentioned that it is about 2 years provided there arent any issues?

    Regards,

    Adrienne

This site will give you a good idea of the time taken to get a Case Officer and Visa 143 or 173, Adrienne.

I'd say about 14 months for the Case Officer and about a month after that to get the Visa.

    Good luck!

  2. hia val, just noticed ur message...tracker ? sorry but i dont know what that is, im not good at this as you can see.

applyed for 143 visa dec 2010, hope it sorted soon, seems such a long wait. how are you progressing ?

    Try this link, Sonia.

It's a really useful website which tells you when people apply, get a CO, do medicals, get visa, etc.

  3. We also got an email.26th Jan.advising we get medical checks-------but also in red ink " stating that our penal checks had expired" so we are having them redone...but we sent 4 emails --and the last one highlighted that Immi's preferred comms was by email & said if no answer we would just have to phone

The question was we had sent in medicals, have you got them ??? The last email got a reply saying that the medicals may be elsewhere in the building but to leave it for 14 days !!

Sponsor having interview with Centrelink today,so moving forward I think.....

    Good luck

I notice that you have entered a CO date on the tracker, ScroogeMacDuck. Is this correct?

Technically, I think that the email you refer to is not the CO date. This should be the date that you hear from your CO direct.

Good luck with your queries, too.

  4. hia john and eirian, we seem to be at the same part of the process as you...we are waiting to hear from a co. have just got our medicals and police checks done..

be good to hear if u any advise...hope you / we hear soon.

Good luck Sonia, but nothing concrete to advise at this stage.

If your email doesn't have anything to worry about (in red!) play for time and wait and see.

However, if after 3-4 weeks you hear nothing more, I'd ring +61 131 881 and ask what is going on, quoting your reference number.

Please, please, please ring them on +61 131 881, preferably using Skype as you might have to listen to messages and sweet music for about 15-20 mins.

If sound not good enough, use your landline.

What is essential is you actually TALK to someone, quoting your reference number. Magically, all will be sorted within the 20 min phone call. That includes your police check confirmation, receipt of medicals.. et al.

As a serious politician once said... TRUST ME!

  6. We have just heard, after a 14 month wait, that our visa application has been refused. Our sponsoring son had not been resident for the full 2 years at the start of our application, although he has now been there almost 3 years! Not sure what to do now . . .

I don't really know the answer, but based on our experience with "expired police check" and also that of Scroogemacduck, don't panic.

Just ring them on the contact number using Skype, wait and wait and wait...

and then when you talk to a real person, you'll find him/her really helpful... as all Aussies are!

  7. Exciting day today!

We got our email today informing us that we need to get prepared to have a CO appointed within the next four months.... get Police Checks, Medicals, AOS, etc done asap, although we've done the first two already.

Our document (page 3) referring to Police Checks also stated that our "previous clearance has expired" As we sent ours off on 31 December 2011, they clearly are very much alive, unless these MUST be done after the email just received. I'll ring them tomorrow to sort it out.

I got through to the Parent Visa Authority (at 3.30 this morning UK time!) and spoke to a very helpful guy called Aaron in Melbourne. He confirmed that both police checks and medicals have a 12 month life and, after checking our papers, that our PCs did not expire until 12 Dec 2012.

He said that the document was a standard pdf and that the note in red about expiry must have been left over from the previous applicant. Any ideas on who this might have been, Scroogemacduck?

    Great relief!

Can anyone advise on the time gap between the email with two pdfs (Prep letter and health examinations) and actually getting a Case Officer, please?

I had the impression it wasn't too long, but maybe I'm just an optimist.

  9. I was under the impression (you read these blogs and adopt ideas/rules/etc) as you go along, that it was 3 months but hoped for more ??--but my email from immi did state my Police Checks were expired--so I just sent for more as we have been good citizens UK/OZ,my certificates were 7 months old and if Visa takes another 2 months then,9 months old.Sent email back, will post reply.

Thanks to all & good luck

macduck out --on a warm nite in Melbourne, better then freezing in Scotland

Also, the bit at the bottom of the same page, still referring to Oz Fed Police police checks and applicants who may have resided in Oz for one year or more in the last ten (not us) has a mysterious note in red at the bottom which states

Note: ensure the Code Number "33" for item 1. Purpose of NPC" is included at the top of the AFP National Police Check Application Form i.e. 33 - Immigration/Citizenship.

Blowed if I can figure out what this means, but as the para does not apply to us, not really bothered. Any ideas?

  10. Hi Gill,

We emigrated to Adelaide in May 2010 and you gave us heaps of help and advice with our visa which were so grateful and now live in Glenelg North and doing good. The reason for contacting you is friends of ours have a visa dilema and if you dont mind we will give you a brief lowdown on their situation:

Chris has lived here (in Adelaide) for 25+ years and kept in touch with a girl (Sharon) back in his home town of Burnley all these years. Last May he visited England and met up with Sharon and to cut a long story short 'fell in love'. She has since been over to Australia twice and is currently here now on a 3 month holiday visa. She desperately wants a permanent visa and we were wondering if you could advise which is the best visa to apply for and how to go about it ?

    Many thanks,

    David

Is getting married not an option?

    John & Eirian

  11. Yes, we have our medicals and police checks done, and still no case officer. Our AoS is also set up - our son went into Centrelink and it was all set up quite quickly. We applied in December 2010 - how much longer must be wait? Our grandchildren are growing up fast.

I'd give them a ring (using skype!) enquiring about your CO, Denzil. It looks as though a little prompt like this has worked wonders for others on this forum previously. Just an innocent enquiry why some with application dates later than yours have apparently jumped the queue!

    Good luck!

    John & Eirian

  12. We have just had a reply emailed to us,asking for sponsor to contact Centrelink.Tried phoning but on hold for >20mins,will try again next week

Also that our Police checks have expired so it looks like only valid for 3 months for Police checks, also requesting medicals which we had done last May--hope that has not expired ! But we sent medicals into Perth by post so hope that they have not lost them, perhaps have not tied them onto our application? have emailed but no reply,Australia is a public holiday anyway.

So the message is do not do Police checks early.

This is really worrying, as we have done both Medicals and Police Checks well before getting our CO.

Please keep me posted on developments.

    Thanks.

    John & Eirian

  13. Our son came out to Australia with us and applied for the last remaining relative visa onshore. He was granted a bridging visa and then he applied for the right to work. He was granted this two days after Christmas, so it doesn't matter how long it takes for his visa to come through, we are all together and he can work.

Great to hear that you're so well adjusted and settled, Betty.

How long did it take your son to get his visa? Information I read elsewhere suggests it is taking up to two years now. Can this be correct?

  14. G'Day John & Eirian

Actually, I emailed a query about our application (to parents@immi.gov.au), and immediately got a standard reply basically referring to their website. But then, several days later, I got a slightly more substantive reply including the four weeks info. I have to say, however, that we still haven't heard anything, more than five weeks after sending it off (by Express Post from within Oz) – but this does include the Christmas and New Year period when everything, not least the Civil/Public Service, goes into hibernation (or should that be aestivation – ie, summer somnolence!).

However, the Parent Visa Centre does indeed have a phone number – though you have to wait through a long automated message before you get anywhere near a human being! It's +61 1300 652 421 (outside Australia) or 1300 652 421 (inside Australia).

    Good luck!

    Mike

    Thanks, Mike.

I just got through to the PVC number from France (5 am!) and managed to find out that they have received both our medical reports and Police checks, which were sent to different addresses - one to Sydney and the other to Perth.

When I asked about time to get a CO, they still insisted it was between 18 and 24 months, despite the evidence to the contrary on the tracker.... official line I s'pose!

    Thanks again.

    John & Eirian

  15. G'day

Parent Visa Centre in Perth say that they are currently taking about four weeks to acknowledge applications for 143/173 visas –

    Mike

How on earth do you get this info, Mike? do you have a special hotline or something?

Surely, you don't get through on the normal phone number? If so, what is it???

    Thanks.

    John & Eirian

  16. it was lovely to meet you all today...I hope we can do it again!

    Fiz

It must have been great meeting up with forum friends who have all been so helpful, supportive, encouraging and friendly. It makes us a bit envious!

We're hoping to come to Sydney during April or May for three weeks or so to validate our visa and "look around" at housing, assuming all CO matters (including getting one) are settled before that. It would be lovely if we could meet with some of you then and learn from all your experiences.

    Good luck!

    John & Eirian
