Thanks again IronChef. Yes it is insured but I don't want I'd have an $800 excess to pay and also it would show as a claim against me. Or can I get the landlord to deal direct with the insurance company?

Hi - quick update and an appeal for recommendations! So thanks to IronChef's advice here I finally managed to get my 330i over to Sydney, in great condition although it took a while and some cost (probably ended up around $11k!). Would highly recommend using Cargo Online and Karman Shipping if anyone is thinking of it. I had a couple of great drives up to the Blue Mountains and Central Coast as well. Now for the bad news....having parked it in my garage for no more than 2 weeks, the heavy rainfall caused a leak in the garage ceiling, which deposited lime residue onto my bonnet!:mad: Not only that I was in Melbourne that week so by the time I got back it had already hardened into an ugly lump. Got an expert to look at it and the only solution is a full respray. Incidentally the same problem happened to our Kluger but we never noticed until now as it was on the roof. Good news is the landlord has agreed to pay for both to be resprayed so now I'm looking for recommendations of reputable guys who can do a goood job of it, ideally based in the Lower North Shore. I need to get quotes this weekend so anyone who knows some good ones please let me know. Cheers

Really helpful post Iron Chef... It got me to register so I could ask your thoughts on my situation. I'm coming over in mid Jan and like Scottish84 my car is not seeing any interest right now. Its a BMW 2005 E90 330i, with loads of extras (leather, auto, satnav, xenon lights, bluetooth, etc) and 68000 miles. However I'd be lucky to get £8-9k over here whereas I see they go for around $40000 private in Sydney, where I'll be heading. Is this a no-brainer to bring it across? FYI I am on a 457 visa but my wife and 2 yr old daughter are Aus citizens, although car only registered in my name. Also I will be getting LAFHA so wouldn't want to jeapordise that. Reading through your advice the hard part seems to be how I prove that I will become PR. If its worthwhile then is it much hassle if I have to do it all after I arrive? I haven't applied for anything yet although it being the holidays that probably doesn't matter. I could leave it with my parents so at least I don't have to worry about that. Thanks!
