DIAC proposes a median turnaround time of 22 calendar days. Its is very frustrating and everyone's situation is different. no idea why ours was so quick but we had front loaded all of our documents. Bar contacting them they isn't much you can do but wait. Not sure what a '12 week' deadline is, never heard of that? Not sure of their working hours but we had movement during a Saturday Oz time so they must work at weekends, or at least Saturday!

    Good luck all.....

  2. We're off to Brisbane too so it should be processed at the same place. we've been told to hang fire with medicals as may not need them but had no response at all re the application. Did you get any e-mails or did you have someone dealing with it all for you??

    HI,

the nursing agent I got employment through submitted on our behalf. No e-mails, just kept checking the DIAC site everyday and then all it said was 'applicant approved' by each persons name. Found out (we think) that my wife didn't need medical but even though we paid for it i will let it go! So long as we have navigated through the process then I can let the idea of losing a few hundred £go

  3. Hiya,

We're off to Brisbane, so ours was processed at Sydney CBD Centre of Excellence (I think all the offices have different processing times due to number of applications). Our application went in on 28th June (e-visa but medicals had been done as paper submissions, sent 15 June) 7 working days in total. We noticed that they work on Saturdays as our medicals were finalised on a Sat! We are amazed as were told to expect a 5 week to 3 month wait!!!

Good luck! Generally 457s seem to be processed reasonably quickly at the moment!

  4. Hey guys n gals,

We have our meds on 7th July at the Bridge Clinic in Berks. Has anybody else had theirs done there? Just wondered what they are like and how long it took for the case officer to be sent the results etc.

Do we need to take our files from our doctors?

Don't want to bugger it up as this is our last hurdle to get over before getting our visa.

    Thanks.

They were awesome, very helpful. Meds posted off nearly 7 days later, they called to give us tracking number. Visa lodged 28/6, meds received 2/7, but still waiting for 3 of the families to show up. No files needed from doctors. Once they go off it is all in the hands of DIAC. Ours were sent manually not electronically and so far it is all falling into place......lovely clinic and very helpful. Drink lots of water

  5. Hi all, i need some help, i am going to perth on a 176 visa which of course means a 2 year obligated stay. However i am shocked by the cost of living and am considering going to another state, am i under strict obligation or is it just that i would be considered a bad sport, morally etc,

    help appreciated jules

Cost of living? As opposed to where? Life is tough wherever my friend. Opportunity - cost, basic economics. Some things cheaper, somethings more, all balances out in the end. We are using freecycle and gumtree and second hand shops once we get there and we are going on under $70 wages.....beg and borrow, it can be made to work. one place we have friends is Sydney and it looks uber expensivio to me.....so going QLD.....

    good luck

  6. I have booked flights and will be travelling to S.E Asia then Australia on the 27th June.

My girlfriend is a nurse and is required to undertake a medical as part of her visa requirement to practice nursing.

We have noticed that to go to our nearest panel doctor in Edinburgh the medical costs £360 and that the medical can be completed in Bangkok for less than £100. A saving of £260 to me is worthwhile having the medical done in Bangkok.

Has anyone on the board done this? Or can see any problems with my plan?

Any advice would be very welcome,,,,

It has to be a DIAC approved panel doctor as approved on their list on the immigration website. Thats what I am led to believe. I am also a nurse due to have medicals in London. Don't cut corners with immigration to save money, we are just doing it to the letter. They hold our future plans in their hands

  7. when getting copies of documents certified do i need to get every individual page signed, eg. if my transcript is 4 pages long does every page need to be signed or just the 4 pages together as one document?

No, usually the justice of the peace who signs it has a little stamp and he will mark '1 0f 4' pages and just stamp the front of the document so long as he has seen the originals. That was my experience anyway

  8. Hi, new to this and quite confused about applying through AHPRA, so any advice appreciated! I'm a British trained RMN, old style hospital trained so not got a diploma or degree in nursing, although more recently have completed a social science degree and also lots of nursing relevant professional development. I lived in Australia for several years back in the 1990's, got citizenship, and was registered and worked in NSW so all documents verified etc then and ok. Have been back in UK for 10 years but now returning to Aus. Obviously the system has changed and it seems i need to reapply through AHPRA from scratch, but as i've already been registered and worked in Australia for years shouldnt there be some record of my previous registration which means i wouldnt have to reprovide all the evidence again? I'm also concerned that my nursing qualification wont be recognised any more, yet if i'd stayed registered in NSW it would have just been tranferred over. Have trawled through the AHPRA site and am not clear about this and have emailed them and got very vague reply.

Also anyone know how long process takes and if worthwhile applying in UK or waiting till back in Australia?

    Many thanks for any advice!

    Nell

Interesting Q as you have already worked in Oz, so there must be a way of them recognising this? Call them. the AHPRA reg forms are on their site. I have found that mine took about 3 months to process, but I was lucky in that I submitted in person whilst on hols in Adelaide. I don't have degree nursing, post grad dip in MH (leads to RMN) ......and my other qualifications were helpful, but not essential. def worth applying from UK though! just phone, the e-mails I initially received were vague and confusing also!"
