  1. No offence but why the fascination with North Lakes? So many people on this forum loooove North Lakes, if you want to live in a rabbit hutch, enjoy.

    Sorry rant over.......

  2. Hi everyone,

I have read and read today, now I am totally confused. I have recently qualified as a nurse and have been advised to get my qualification converted and be put on the nursing register. However, I am totally confused as to how to do this and this IELTS test thing? Surely being born bred and educated in the UK is enough?

I have emailed the Australian Health board, but still have not heard anything. Can anyone please point me in the right direction and I do apologise to those who feel I am being spoon fed, but my brain has gone to mush and so confused right now.

    Many thanks,

    Michelle

You need the IELTS test period........ good luck!

  3. Hi FLUXSTA, could you please clarify something for me. I too have received letter of eligibility and have till end of march 2012 to attend AHPRA office. It says to show proof of no criminal record (which i guess we can use police clearance certificate for), and proof of ID...but when i checked with person who sent me letter, she said need to show letter of job offer and proof of Oz address? Is this correct? My concern is that we're going to validate visas in feb, but return to uk for another 14 months till daughter finishes education so i won't have job offer, or Oz address (only rental) and letter states if don't attend AHPRA to complete registration process will lose eligibility and all paperwork submitted to date will be destroyed and will have to start all over again which i cannot bear to do! Thank you. Tania

I think as far as AHPRA states then yes they are correct in saying that there is a period of time to do it and then you have to start from scratch. Please PM me if you wish to correspond as I don't pick up notifications unless you quote a post and i dont' use this site much anymore! Look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers!

  4. Can Someone help me please!!!!!!!!

I got eligibility letter from Ahpra and to complete the registration process they want me to submit my ID's with police clearence certificate to any Ahpra office in person within one year of this eligibility letter....lots of my friends in UK got the same thing recently...I think this is how Ahpra giving out registration nowadays...Anyway in my case I manage to find job and sponsorship 457 visa..So as soon as I reach Australia I will submit my documents with ID to Ahpra office to complete the registration process as Ahpra says..Does anyone know then I will be in the register straight away or I have to wait another month for that....did anyone go through this new Ahpra registration procedure...

    please help.......

    Ok,

    1.Send ALL documents to AHPRA

    2. They send 'letter of eligibility'

    3. Attend AHPRA office, show ID and proof of visa.

    4. Your name appears on register. They will e-mail you to tell you it was doen. Took me five days for name to show up.

Voila, I have just done it and am now in Brisbane.....very very simple. If you are unsure of anything call AHPRA and avoid all the hearsay and gossip......

    Good luck!!

  5. Hi, I am new to this forum. This has probably been asked many times before so apologies!

I would like to move to Perth in the next 1 - 2 years. I have only just qualified with a Higher Education Diploma.

I would like to know whether AHPRA will register UK Diploma qualified nurses and whether there is a minimum work experience requirement, I'm sure I read 12 months somewhere...?.

I would be aiming to go over on a 457 if I can get sponsorship - does anyone know if there is a minimum work experience period that employers would expect before sponsoring?

    Thanks

    Hannah x

    Google is your friend!!!

  6. Hi!

Is anyone aware if I'm supposed to send copies of my GCSE certs with the application, it doesn't seem to state and worryingly I have lost them! I have my A-Levels certs from the same school and a letter stating that the school (but not mentioning my name) teach and assess in English. Anyone clued up on this stuff? IELTS would have been so much less hassle!!!

    Thanks, Chris

yes, yes and yes. Call AHPRA about IELTS as they change goalposts, but might as well cover all avenues and do it anyway. I needed it for AHPRA, and sent info from my seondary school, gcse's etc.

get it info from horses mouth!! This forum is awesome but anything official go through the right channels.....

  7. With reference to the statement of service we must provide, I've worked for several hospitals of the last 5 years. Does anyone know if they want a statement of entry from each hospital or just my current employers?

This forum is AMAZINGLY helpful. I think I would be on the verge of meltdown if you weren't here!!

    Many thanks, Chris

read the guidelines on the Agos-04 form....it states something about each employer needing to give references. Don't quote me on it, but check as that rings bells

  8. I have asked my secondary school to please re write a letter specifying exactly what they want

Yep.....looks like the IELTS for proof of English (see below). I had to, they would accept no substitute, just remembered my secondary ed letter was meaningless to them and I submitted in person all my documents at the Adelaide AHPRA office. E-mail them to be sure...........

  9. Hi, anyone able to help me here?!?

I was "delighted" to pay the University £120 for my transcript, but they're saying that they normally send it straight on the the Australian health board, I was under the impression that I'd just submit it with the rest of my documents. Anyone able to shed any light on this?? Many thanks, Chris :)

Just contact them and ask them to send it to your home address? My uni had no need to send it on? It was my course and merely a copy of my certificate and transcipts. can't shed light, other than request it be sent to you. State that you need it 'certified' first and this has to be done before it is submitted?

  10. Well I have just had an email back too saying they are not happy with who I used as a certifier and that I need to get it all photocopied and certified again!! I used a Barrister of a High Court who has done this sort of thing plenty of times, surely he is suitable?!

They also stated that I have supplied insufficient evidence of being taught and assessed in English, I sent them letters from my head teacher of my secondary school and my college stating that all subjects were taught in English and I gave them a copy of my college certificate and uni certificate to prove I passed them. I don't understand what else they want??

I think they were also saying I haven't provided enough proof of identity. I sent them a copy of passport and birth certificate and change of name deed as it says overseas applicants can provide this as a minimum but will need to provide the rest on arrival? Did anyone else just provide this?

I'm so disheartened it took me about two months to get all that paperwork together and to get it all signed (not to mention the cost!) I really don't understand where I have gone so wrong! :(

I also sent letters from secondary ed to confirm that I was taught in english. Sounds like they want IELTS test results.??

Have you done the IELTS test? they (apparently) keep changing the goalposts on this one. Check, if so find your nearest test centre by using Google. Don't be disheartened, remember they are under no obligations and we have to keep jumping through the hoops.

Our motto was if it didn't need doing....we did it anyway!!! By any means...

Also, it HAS to be a Justice of the Peace, contact local court house or search Google for Public Notary. Again, jump the hoops and follow all requests word for word.

  11. hi all, im currently trying to register with AHPRA (what a nightmare), i sent off for to the NMC for the aplication pack so that they can verify my qualifications, they sent this but also a letter saying:

'some overseas registrations authorites require a practitioner to hold effective registration with their original body, therefore, may i suggest you check with the overseas registration authority, with whom you are applying for registration, in order to ascertain whether effective registration in the UK is required. if you do require effective registration with the NMC then please contact us.

i dont suppose any of you know what effective registration is? its just im already registered with the NMC so i dont know what this means?! any help appreciated

They just mean that if you are registred as a nurse in the UK then they can help. What I did was send all documents to AHPRA,contact NMC and ask them to send confirmation of my registration, you give them the AHPRA office address in whichever Australian office you have sent documents, and voila! You have now given AHPRA proof that you are UK registered, simple as. Think NMC charge a fee, not much though. When I called them there was a specific department that they transferred me to and they sent out the form, only short and one sided. Pay fee, enter AHPRA address, takes a few days and they post direct.

Hope that helps, don't be confused by it all!

  12. I have booked flights and will be travelling to S.E Asia then Australia on the 27th June.

My girlfriend is a nurse and is required to undertake a medical as part of her visa requirement to practice nursing.

We have noticed that to go to our nearest panel doctor in Edinburgh the medical costs £360 and that the medical can be completed in Bangkok for less than £100. A saving of £260 to me is worthwhile having the medical done in Bangkok.

Has anyone on the board done this? Or can see any problems with my plan?

Any advice would be very welcome,,,,

It has to be a DIAC approved panel doctor as approved on their list on the immigration website. Thats what I am led to believe. I am also a nurse due to have medicals in London. Don't cut corners with immigration to save money, we are just doing it to the letter. They hold our future plans in their hands

  13. when getting copies of documents certified do i need to get every individual page signed, eg. if my transcript is 4 pages long does every page need to be signed or just the 4 pages together as one document?

No, usually the justice of the peace who signs it has a little stamp and he will mark '1 0f 4' pages and just stamp the front of the document so long as he has seen the originals. That was my experience anyway

  14. Hi, new to this and quite confused about applying through AHPRA, so any advice appreciated! I'm a British trained RMN, old style hospital trained so not got a diploma or degree in nursing, although more recently have completed a social science degree and also lots of nursing relevant professional development. I lived in Australia for several years back in the 1990's, got citizenship, and was registered and worked in NSW so all documents verified etc then and ok. Have been back in UK for 10 years but now returning to Aus. Obviously the system has changed and it seems i need to reapply through AHPRA from scratch, but as i've already been registered and worked in Australia for years shouldnt there be some record of my previous registration which means i wouldnt have to reprovide all the evidence again? I'm also concerned that my nursing qualification wont be recognised any more, yet if i'd stayed registered in NSW it would have just been tranferred over. Have trawled through the AHPRA site and am not clear about this and have emailed them and got very vague reply.

Also anyone know how long process takes and if worthwhile applying in UK or waiting till back in Australia?

    Many thanks for any advice!

    Nell

Interesting Q as you have already worked in Oz, so there must be a way of them recognising this? Call them. the AHPRA reg forms are on their site. I have found that mine took about 3 months to process, but I was lucky in that I submitted in person whilst on hols in Adelaide. I don't have degree nursing, post grad dip in MH (leads to RMN) ......and my other qualifications were helpful, but not essential. def worth applying from UK though! just phone, the e-mails I initially received were vague and confusing also!"
