  1. Congrats Anika and eggwise! you must be so excited after not seeing each other for so long. I'm happy for you both :D

I emailed AB about 3 weeks ago to ask when my visa would likely be approved and he just told me the generic 5-6 months. How did you figure out it was 'due' to be granted at the end of October, did you just work out that was 5 months after your application or did your CO give you a ballpark estimation? Since I'm just wondering when to phone my CO to ask about booking flights early, as my own 5 month mark will be mid November and I see you applied only a couple of weeks before I did - so do you think that means I'd get a date from them if I asked myself in a couple of weeks time (ie at the same stage in the process you asked and got a reply?)

I'm just not sure what to expect of them and don't want to get my hopes up although your news is really great I'm hoping my case won't for some reason be different :( I really want to book my flights to get over there almost immediately after mine has been approved, if possible so I can only do that if I know my date in advance.

Apologies if that sounded way more complicated than I intended!

    Very eager here!

on the back of the last few days excitement with a few people being granted visas i bit the bullet and emailed my case officer, she told me that she couldnt give a specific date but applications were taking nearer the 6 month end of the 5-6 month period. So i still have at least 3.5 months to wait on that basis... it will happen eventually!

  2. Jobs and waiting for 309/100's !

Hi everyone - I realise this may not be the exact correct thread for it but .... i am obviously, like many others on here looking for a spouse visa grant in the next few months . And the job search for those with our type of visa strikes me as a little different to other classes.

In a way it is kind of easier for those on company sponsored visas - they at least know what they are going to do when they get there as a job is already sorted and secured in most cases when the visa is granted.

For us lot on spousies, i expect that unless we have sorted out a job beforehand, it's quite a leap into the unknown if we are planning to work in Oz that is ( i suspect most are!).

Could i ask please what people have done to try and get jobs before they arrive and while they wait for their visa to come ?

For example, i can only register on the Australian Govt website if i already have a visa granted (i assume having one "pending" is no good even if you suggest it will be within a couple of months?).

Also what do you tell recruiters? "i have appplied for a 100 class visa & have been told it should be granted in x date , take it as gospel and give me a job offer" - is this assurance enough for them to take you seriously?

Do they require (or can they get?) any back up from the embassy to confirm they are considering your application & give a "nod and wink"?

What websites or recruiters do people generally use?

I have to say after checking the web generally and this website i'm really not that much more clued up as to where to start and what to say.

Happy to send my resume to employers / recruiters and tell them i plan on coming "soon" visa pending and give a likely date - but i really want to tee things up so i can get work in the next few months whilst waiting for the visa and wondered what others had done.

i'm a UK RICS accredited commercial property valuer /manager and am moving to Melbourne - would be grateful if anyone could give a little advice or share their own experiences.

    many thanks

  3. I'm desperate to ask my case officer LG if she can give me date in advance of granting the visa , i hear other people have asked their own officers and got "intend to grant you a visa on x date" confirmations - however i was wondering whether it is too early to ask .

They have been processing my application for 2 months now, quoted 5-6 months originally so should be mid Nov-mid Dec - when do people reckon i will realistically be able to pin them down to a date?

My partner is leaving for Oz in mid Nov & it would be great to be able to co-ordinate things!

  4. Flying out today. The hardest thing was saying goodbye to my 90 year old Nan as i know that was the last time i ever see her, which was horrendous as she was there throughout my childhood. However i am missing my OH soo much and cant wait to see her..

All the very best with your move - i'm sure it will be a great one for you and glad you are excited!

i am caught in the aged grandparent issue as well. My gran is 94 & hasn't been too well this year.

I am also particularly close to her and although she has many grandchildren ( one of whom also emigrated to Oz with his family ), i am dreading telling her that me & my partner are leaving before Christmas but i need to get on with it. I'm such a wimp. would be interested to know how you broached the subject. Though there really isnt an easy way is there. I know she will say the best of luck etc but it's heartbreaking and i feel very selfish / disloyal / guilty, mix of emotions.

  5. Just found this thread. Almost every one visiting it has applied for spouse visa.

Kindly check and reply to my related query.

Actually, I just want to know that what do DIAC means by proof of resident sponsoring spouse has to provide with 309 application?

    http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/157620-proof-residence-spouse-visa.html

Basiclly it is to show that your spouse "normally resides" in Australia.

I guess as well as them having to prove they are Australian, they must provide evidence of links i.e family there who can vouch for them if required, employment details from an Australian Company, tax records to the Australian Government, Tax records to the UK government showing overseas residency status, home address in Australia etc, if not living there now, proof of when they did live there, and for how long.

Sounds like quite a bit but if your better half has lived out of Oz for a few years (but not all their life!) there shouldn't be a problem .

I expect if your partner was born in Oz but has never really spent any time living there, it could be hard to prove they "normally" reside there.

  6. My updated timeline

    Application posted 13 June

    Received at AH 14 June

Confirmatory email assigning CO and requesting med checks 18 June

    Medical undertaken 26 June

    Received by authorities 28 June

Confirmation that medical info received & i am being assessed for Subclass 100 Visa 10 July.

Estimated grant time 5-6 months from application so 14 Nov - 14 Dec....

How am i going to cope with all this radio silence & waiting?!

Am so pleased to be being assessed for a 100 visa , we did put in a lot of info with our application and have been together 7 years but still, i expected to be asssesed first for a 309.

  7. Yes looking at recent stories it looks like it really will be the time stated but I hoped that was an over estimation and subject to individual applications (I think mine is a straight forward case, so hoped would make a difference). I just wondered because in this thread in 2009 people seemed to be getting their visas approved in only a couple of weeks - now it is 6 months that is a big difference. Is this due to newly introduced capping/ an increase in applications or did those people just get lucky?

Do you know whether that will that count from when I submitted my application or when they received the additional police and health check they asked for?

I know I should just chill but I can't. We've already been apart for 4 months, so plus the 6 months waiting time then another month to sort out flights etc, that's a year apart.... scary.

That's tough if you are apart, sorry to hear that. I am living with Aussie partner here in UKL at the moment so it's not too awful waiting, although if you're impatient like i am , still a bit tedious.

i really think they just process in date received order unless there are very special circumstances.

i think the clock starts ticking from when they receive your application rather than meds etc.

From what i understand from friends, the grapevine etc, yes, 309/100's were being processed in a few weeks to a couple of months in 2009 in straightforward cases.

I am pretty certain that is no longer the case. Although when i got my meds done last week, the doctor said to me (oh well, they'll be almost ready to issue your visa if you've got to the stage of submitting medicals". Reading people's replies this is clearly not the case any more, although it probably was 2 or 3 years ago. Why it has changed i don't know. I think possibly there have been a fair number of changes to the immigration system over the past 3 years and perhaps ( speculating ) that some of the resourcing may hve been pulled onto other aspects of the system in more need . Or new systems may have been taking time to bed in . Or it may be a case of numbers .

Certainly everyone you speak to says getting a partner visa is straightforward compared to other routes. However it is tedious to wait.

  8. I'm applying for a slightly different visa, the subclass 300 (prospective marriage) although both the Australian and London websites state that both the 300 marriage and 309 spouse visas have exactly the same processing times of around 6 months (http://www.immi.gov.au/about/charter.../visas/5.0.htm and http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/immi_processing_times.html)

Does this mean that the 12 week waiting time quoted by the original poster in 2009 has increased since - or are 309 spousal visas for some reason taking much less time to approve than 300 marriage ones, despite the waiting times quoted being exactly the same (6 months not 12 weeks for both.)

Supposedly the wait time is 5-6 months. Certainly looking through previous posts it appears that this is the case. The ocassional person seems to get theirs done in 4 months. However i wonder whether now they are in a new "visa year" (from 1 July 2012 ) any backlog - i think there were more applications than expected last year - may be cleared and they might start to catch up. Who knows?

It is frustrating having to wait but i think its best to just chill and accept there will be not much news forthcoming , following a 300 or 309/100 application , for several months once it starts getting processed.

  9. had confirmation on Friday that i passed my medicals and the results should be with the authorities in Australia by middle of this week.

hopefully then there won't be such a huge wait for the Visa. Getting quite excited now....can't bloody wait to move to Melbourne. Applied for 309/100 but am desperate to get the 100 straight off to enhance my employment prospects.been with my partner 7 years and just fingers crosssed the proof we sent was enough and the visa gods shine on us.

  10. What are the requirements for the 309 or 100 visa subclass. Just wondering which one I am likely to get?? Thanks

i think you need to have been together 3 years to get a 100 class visa and 12 months to get a 309 . I have applied for defacto and have been with my partner 7 years, though living together for 6. if you are married and have kids i imagine you can go straight to 100 without much issue, if you have the evidence!

i got notification from Australia House that i need to go and get medical, etc today . A person wrote to me with initials LG . Hopefully i will get the medical done and passed shortly and then we shall see. Letter quoted 5-6 month wait for Visa.

  11. well jimmyay1 if you hear from your case officer before me then I had better get in touch with them. Seems like we are on similar time lines... The money left the account super quick. That must be the first page they turn to!

A good sign as i expect they put your details in on the system and set you up as a new case when they take the payment.

Let's see what next week brings!
