  1. Hi kipHarris

Thank you for the info, do you know anything about Wellington Point State School?

Meeting up or a brew and a natter would be great, we are movng late September. :jiggy:

Although it is almost 10years ago now, our daughter went to Wellington Point State School and she loved it there, we were very happy with it.

  2. Some dance schools offer a 'professional year' and don't be put off by them also being a regular weekend/evening dance school as my daughter attended a reputable, high standard London dance college (on a full scholarship) and when she visited the dance schools in Brisbane she was astounded by the standard of the dancing. Many school age children complete their Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 RAD ballet, qualifications that in the UK are in the main only completed at the full time dance colleges.

  3. According to the ATO tax would approximately be $9097 per year, not 17.5, it is $3572 + 32.5c for each dollar over $37,000. the figure of 17.5K would be more accurate for someone not classed as resident for tax purposes. Even a temporary visa can result in being resident for tax purposes as long as you meet all the criteria.

54k income, tax approx 17.5k, rent at 400 (20800 a year) a week which you will be lucky to find in Brisbane equates to, 15700 left for the year which gives you 301 dollars a week for food, bills, travel to work, look after family. If you are not bringing any money over or you wife wont be work, I would say impossible on one salary. Australia is very expensive and to be fair to feed your family may cost what you have left....sorry
  4. I don't think people should get hung up on 'who posts what' and 'where they post it from', it is a forum where people are free to express their feelings and opinions including posting links to news and other information they think people might like to read.

  5. When we first came, we didn't settle and decided to make the move back. Taking the pressure off to settle, in the end made us settle if that makes sense....and by the time we were looking at flights and cancelling the lease on the house we decided that actually, we didn't want to go back. We moved house to a different area and everything fell into place.

  6. I think it is hard to say as I only have experience living on the South side of Brisbane in the Cleveland area. We very much like it there and Brisbane is only 25km away, taking around 45 minutes to drive in if the traffic is good, and the airport is only 30 minute drive away. I would find it hard to list preferences if I were asked to do so as the state is very diverse and each region can offer such a different lifestyle.

  7. I think sometimes human nature makes us want what we can't have, and when we can have it you then have doubts. I know this happended to me. Doubts are bound to creep in when you are moving out of your comfort zone. Once I looked upon it as an adventure and not a move for life, the doubts decreased and I enjoyed life in Australia better, settled better and now wouldn't live anywhere else.

  8. Remember that here you can nearly always get some money knocked off the price, just ask them what the best price they can do it for, and then haggle some more. I agree that whitegoods and tvs have a wide range of price from really cheap to very expensive. When we came over we just bought cheap to get us up and running and then replaced things gradually once we bought a house and knew more about brands.
