  1. I think its hard to say, some places only take up references after they have made their mind up, it cant be bad news whatever it is.. What sort of teaching position you going for? My girlfriend is a teaching moving out soon everyone very negative about teaching prospects so its good your getting interviews from the UK and they not wanting you to teach a lesson or anything

Hey - I'm Secondary Science (chemistry specifically), I was very surprised to get an interview before I moved out - it was over the phone, so quite tricky!

Thanks to all for your replies, I have been offered both jobs, I'm now just in a dilemma about which one I should go with! :-/

  2. Thanks practicenurse - I might look into it - I'm just a whimp though, and after 3 years I'd probably completely forget when it would need to be changed!

Those people in Oz on the injection - I've heard it costs about $16 for the prescription and $40 for the doctors appointment, I saw someone say the medicare refunds some of this - how long does it take to get some of that money back?

    Thanks again people! :-)

  3. I think I will get implant back in so it's one less thing to worry about.. Well at least for 3years anyway! :-)

Has anyone changed from the injection to the implant?

Are the side-effects the same? for example I get a very good convienient side effect each month from the injection and don't want to lose it - so would the implant be the same?

  4. Thanks for your reply - I noticed after posting this that pet air Scotland is basically pet air UK - but still good to get some feedback on how good they are - so thank you for your reply! Being run by vets would definitely be a positive for us too - I'm a bit anxious about our cat making the journey, but I'm sure it'll be worth it - he'll love sunbathing when he joins us! :-)

  5. Hey - has anyone used Pet Air SCOTLAND?

I'm in the process of looking into quotes for my cat and wanted to hear any reviews on how good/bad, etc their service is?

    Thanks :-)

  6. Thanks ladies! I can't seem to find any other threads when searching - but will try to contact the centre in Northbridge and see what they say!

I'm a bit of a woos when it comes to the implant - just can't bring myself to do that - also the benefits for me being on the injection - don't want to lose them if I don't have to!

    :-)

  7. Hey - do any women know if you can get the equivalent to the UK Depo contraceptive injection in Perth?

I don't really want to change what I'm on just now, and might be leaving soon, so need to have an idea of whether I can get it there or not...its every 3 months so I'll need to make sure I get organised so that I don't miss the next injection.

    Thanks for any info! :-)

  8. Thanks MaryRose02 - Will think of that, would like to find a bit of a nicer place to stay than a hostel - I'm sure I saw threads here before that were for shared accomodation. Hoping someone can give us some more links. Will look into hostels though, it would certainly be a cheaper option, and I've seen some rentals on gumtree, fingers crossed!

  9. Hey everyone and anyone that can help!

We are probably going to be heading out in July this year, but we really need to find a cheap place to stay as we are not sure we will have jobs secured before we move, and don't want to eat into our savings.

We are a young married couple (27 and 29 year old), like a quite life! Quite happy to even rent a double room for a few weeks until we secure work and a more long-term rental.

Anyone have any ideas or contacts?

    Thanks in advance! :-)

  10. Ok I've been having a tinker with this for a little while and think I've got it pretty close. I've developed an Excel spreadsheet that provides an estimate of whether or not your car is

Category A: definitely worth bringing, you'll do nicely out of it when the time comes to sell

Category B: only worth bringing if you love the car and/or plan to keep it for a while

Category C: not worth the aggro, you're better off selling it in the UK

*Disclaimers* - the estimates are based on the following:

    1) using our most complete 'A Package' service at AUD990 (it's set up for our customers, obviously!)

    2) using RORO shipping from Southampton (does not include transport to get your car to the port)

    3) the current GBP/AUD exchange rate

    4) an estimated Australian Customs value calculated for your specific vehicle

    5) includes customs duty, GST and LCT where necessary

    6) a set figure for customs clearance (which I've deliberately set higher than what they normally come in at)

    7) includes the cost of Australian Customs valuation and transport to the workshop once cleared

    8) includes allowance for the minor modifications needed before registration

    9) includes road registration and stamp duty costs (for a "no surprises" all inclusive cost estimate)

As you can see, I've tried to be as upfront about the costs of getting the vehicle to Australia, and I have actually over-allowed on what many bills come in at. There are a heap of variables in here and each car is different, so don't be disheartened if you get a category C - the calculator isn't meant to be the ultimate authority, but it will give you a fair guide.

    What I need from you:

    - year of manufacture

    - make, model & variant

    - body type (coupe, convertible, etc)

    - engine size & fuel type

    - transmission

    - drive type (4WD, front wheel drive, etc)

    - mileage

    - any special features, options or modification

    - does it have aircon

    - realistic current UK market value

    - Australian RedBook value (www.redbook.com.au - click through to the page with 'Private Price Guide', 'Trade In Price Guide' and 'Price When New' listed, then tell us the 'Private Price Guide' range)

    - Australian market value (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/search.aspx - search for the closest matching vehicle)

    - which Australian state/city

Please note when you are searching that most Vauxhall, Opel and some Chevrolet models will be badged as Holden in Australia.

    Let's test it out

**Please note, our responses will normally be just an A, B or C. If you want a full breakdown of costs, you'll need to email us via our website***

  11. Hi Saz!

I know about the RE thing- they only teach it in private schools, but I taught English in Aus and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to it again.

As far as I saw the behaviour of the kids etc was pretty much the same, particularly as a lot of the kids were English/Scottish. They staff were a lot friendlier and it was good to be away from the terrible academy/lack of jobs/jobs only going to NQTs/Cover supervisors situation of England- plus the pay was a lot better!

There is a distinct difference between the funding and behaviour in the private/state schools- but I'd always work in a state school over a private school. I'm trying to get there by september 2013 and maybe do some supply/relief work... this prob isnt possible is it?

    David

Hey, our visa came in nine months, and it took a couple months to get skills assessment through before that. Then you've got to remember you'll have to get your medical, once requested. So Sept 2013 could be very optimistic! I assume you are registered for English/history then?

Sounds good out there, i wouldn't choose a private school either. Fingers crossed there's jobs available when i'm heading out there! Best of luck with your plans :-)

  12. Hey - no, we're looking to move mid 2013 - just wanted to get an idea of how we can get onto the property ladder, as thats our biggest goal really! Hoping if we can get jobs ASAP when we move then we can keep our savings and use them towards a deposit...fingers crossed!

  13. Hi David - I'm sure you'll be aware having taught in Oz, but they don't do RE as as subject - so English or history would be your best bet - but are you fully registered for these subjects with the UK teaching authority? That would be your first step. AITSL are quite quick, as its a profession rather than a trade, you just need to send off certificates from Uni, registration with UK teaching (ie. in Scotland it would be my GTCS registration certificate) and a letter from head teacher(s) to confirm your teaching experience.

But please remember, DO NOT apply for visa before you have your skills assessment completed.

The whole process will not be quicker based on your personal circumstances, they will only know these when they get to your application, it is the waiting in the queue that takes all the time! Although I wouldn't pay for an agent if I was you - me and my hubbie did it by ourselves and it was an easy enough process - that was based on my skills as a teacher.

If you have any questions just get in touch! By the way, how did Oz teaching in Perth compare to the UK? We're moving in 2013, to Perth and I'm a Chemistry teacher - so would be interesting to see how you found it?!? :-)

  14. Hey - thanks for that so far!

Mad cow...the first time buyers grant - is that applicable before you actually buy? ie. could we start the process of applying for building a house and apply for the grant to pay towards the deposit??? (does that make sense?)

Adjutant - thanks for the timing advice, will bear that in mind!

  15. Thanks everyone - thats some fantastic information, will have a look on some of those websites and will def. consider diploma rather than cert IV.

Its difficult for me to know what I would like to do as I have only ever been a teacher, straight from school to uni, then to teaching. Been doing it for 5 years and really have no other idea on what I could do, or be good at!

Appreciate all the advice and will get back to you when I've had a looky! :-)

  16. Hi "Realitynotincluded" - was looking into Occupational Health and Safety, as I like working with people and have strong views on making workplaces safe for all. We had a recent experience at our workplace that did not do this correctly and I felt like I was the only person who seemed to be interested in the safety of the staff!

Hoping someone on the forum may have experience in this field to give me more of an insight!
