  1. Hi Gilly, I started off as an EN in 1977 yes hospitals were invented then but Florence Nightingale was a pain in the neck, I converted to RN in 1986 and never had any trouble migrating out here as as RN!!
  2. forgot to mention that apparently on the nursing side they do sponserships!
  3. Hi Glen, Ok so unless you have done it already type in Corrections Victoria ( if Vic is where you want to live?) and that will direct you to their web site. There are about 16 prisons in Vic some are remote. Here we have Barwon Max security with us at Marngoneet medium to max next door. Then in the city you have Port Phillip ( known as Port Putrid) and MRC -Melbourne Remand Centre. There are a few others obviously round and about, as I say God bless google. As for nurse jobs yep they are there , you probably can understand that it is not the job for everyone. I have always wanted to do it ( love the criminal mind) but my back ground is mixes and varied, general , ICU, School Health adviser but last 6 yrs practice nursing! Not rocket science pay is good. casual rate for nurse is $45 per hour - you get more as they dont pay you holiday etc, and here you can have set hours almost as casual, not like casual potato pickers in the uk hahaha. Anyway ask away and I will do what I can to help! Best wishes Vi
  4. I guess it depends on how much hands on experience you have. A lot of the work is triaging and dealing with basic health problems to reieve the Dr who works 3 days a week, dishing out meds, working with care plans. You have to be confident in what you do I think, its similar to General Practice in a way with more autonomy but totally different to my 35 years in the field. However I get satisfaction from little things so Im not out to change the world and it gets my brain working!
  5. I am currently working in a correctional facility nr Geelong and we are desperately needing Rn'S No experience of prisons needed, The pay is good and they are encourageing permanent contracts. Please feel free to email me. Vi
