<p>I work as a Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Care in Far North Queensland. I have also worked in Vic and NSW.</p>

<p>I arrived in Victoria in 1986 at the beginning of the nurses strike of that year throughout Vic.</p>

<p>Personally we find Cains a very nice place to live. </p>

<p>Good points:</p>

<p>The weather is superb, if you like the warm and don't mind the humidity. </p>

<p>The city is much better supplied with facilities than would be expected in Australia for a city of this size. This is due to the very large tourist population.</p>

<p>The price of housing is much better than major cities in Australia, but not as good as some inland rural cities.</p>

<p>The coastline is fantastic. While central Cairns does not have a beach, there are many beach side suburbs a little north of the cit centre.</p>

<p>I gather schooling is patchy with areas of excellence, and a couple of not so good places.</p>

<p>Bad points:</p>

<p>Rather culturally starved - no quality art galleries or museums. No regular performances of classical music</p>

<p>Friends in other parts of Australia, are a long way away. It is a 4 day (10 hour days of driving) drive to Sydney, a 5 1/2 day drive to Melbourne. There are lots of flights though.</p>
