  1. I have been reading lots of posts on here that say that Perth is suffering and jobs are becoming increasingly difficult to find. We have our state sponsored visa's from my husbands skill which is a metal machinist/cnc operator. does anyone know if this industry has been affected by the down turn of the mines and if he would struggle to find work when we come over?? I am a health co-ordinator for the NHS and would like a similar job in Perth and wondered if anyone knew if it was easy to get these kind of roles within the WA health care providers. Any Help or advice would be by much appreciated.
  2. Following on from RikandVik post, we where going to import out car but it is registered in my name on the logbook but my husband is the main visa applicant and myself and our daughter qualify as spouse and child. Does that mean that we couldn't import the car as its in my name and not my husbands??
  3. Hi, Does anyone know if light fittings/ceiling light shade fit in Australia? I have my packets here and not sure if I should take them or not?? Thanks
  4. Hi there, This was my question Hi Sue, Thanks for your reply. Can I just clarify that I will be able to apply for the VIA from the 17/03/2013 onwards if I purchased it on the 16/03/2013? On the V5 document please can you confirm what date you use. It states that I acquired the vehicle on 16/03/2012 but near the doc ref no it states 02/04/2013,but i think this date changes everytime you make a change i.e change if address or change to a private reg etc. which I assume you allow. I'm just trying to work out if it is worth bringing our car or selling it prior to departure. Kind regards Jo This was their response Dear Jo Yes, you can apply from 17 March 2013. We use the date that states when you acquired the vehicle. Regards Sue Hope this helps, I wil definately be keeping these emails for when we apply. Hope this helps. Jo
  5. On our V5 document it only has the date you acquired the vehicle in our case it states 16/03/2012 the other date is the 02/04/2013 which is near the doc ref no. Which I believe changes everytime you make a change I.e move address etc. as far as I can see there is no other dates on the v5 and believe me I have checked it lots I times lol.
  6. We had a reply from DIT and they definately use the date you acquired the vehicle. So in my case they said I can apply anytime from the 17/03/2013 onwards. Does anyone know of any other reasons they might refuse approval as I am going to leave my car in the uk pending approval.
  7. Sorry I jut have one more question. What date do the dept who approve the import use on the V5. The date the vehicle was acquired or the date near the doc ref no. I.e we acquired the vehicle on 16/03/2012 and the date near doc ref no is 02/04/2012. Thanks Jo
  8. Hi Craig, thanks for the advice. Does that mean I can fly out on the 17th March and still qualify? If I submit my application as soon as I get to Perth how long will the import approval take to come through? Is there any chance that they might decline me? Once I have approval how long will it take to get to Perth and through all the checks?? I'm just trying to weigh up if it's worth the hassle or just sell it? Thanks Jo
  9. Please can someone help or clarify for me please. We will have owned our car for 12 months on 16/03/2013 and want to fly to Perth on the 17/03/2013. Some people I have spoken to said there is no way I can even apply until the 12 months is up. I am so confused as we need to leave ASAP but also really wanna take our car out with us as well. Anyone who has any advice or been in a similar situation would love to hear from you. Thanks Jo
  10. We paid £8000 for it and by the time we have paid to ship it over I am wondering if it is worth the hassle although we would intend keeping it for a long time in oz. what do you think?
  11. Does anyone know if 7 seaters are popular in Australia I have been trying to find my car which is a Mitsubishi grandis and can't find many of them or any other people carriers on the Internet. Thanks Jo
  12. We are moving to Perth in march 2013 but it feels like such a long time away. We are not selling our house straight away so are moving in with in laws and going to use the time to save like mad. I just feel like its such an emotional rollercoaster and don't know if I can ride it for the next year. Has anyone else been through this knowing your going but having to wait? And did the time go quickly?? any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Joandgareth
  13. Hi Kristian, We have been to many expo's in the UK and the most popular and busiest by far has been the 'Working In' expo. First one of this year is cominguo this weekend in London but I know they have another one in sept/oct time. There are usually lots of companies recruiting but also lots of banks, shipping agents, migration agents, usually a couple of the big state governments are there at the last one WA and Victoria was there. Hope this helps. Jo
  14. Does any of you know the answer.... We are bringing our car with us which we will have owned and used for 12 months on March 16th 2013. Is there any. Have that I would be able to book my flights and come over on the 1st March?? I know it's only 2 weeks but I wondered how tight they where on this rule. Do you think I would get away with it?? Jo
  15. Hi Iron Lady, You forgot me. I would like to bring our Mitsubishi grandis over 30k miles / aircon / 2006 with full leather DVD player. Valued approx £6000 in uk. I have seen on rebook are carsales.com.au for between $20-30k. It's a 2.4 petrol auto. What would it cost including your broker figure to ship it over I trying to find out ASAP as i have just bought this car an if I can't ship it I will sell it now. Thanks for your help. Jo
  16. I agree completely we have been through stress and the apprehension of the visa process. The hardest thing will be saying goodbye to parents and grand parents which I don't think you can prepare yourself for. I know my heart it's the best move for my family but it also breaks my heart to leave loved ones and close friends behind. Good luck with your plans xx
  17. Hi IronChef, We are looking at bringing a Mitsubishi Grandis Equippe 07 plate with aircon 30000 miles petrol. Value here is approx £6.5k in OZ is $20-22. Many thanks Jo
  18. Thanks PeteD, do you or anyone else on here know if it would be worth bringing over my Mitsubishi Grandis or selling and buying a car when I get over there?? I just cant believe the cose of used cars, I'm just trying to work the actual cost of what it would be to get it over there, mind is boggled. Thanks Jo
  19. Please can anyone help? Does the 12 month ownership rule still apply for taking cars to oz? Also do I pay tax on what my var is valued before I leave the UK or how much it is worth in oz. As here it is only worth £6k but in perth the same car is worth $26,000!! But when we come over we will have only owned the car 9 months. Thanks Jo
  20. Thank you all so much for your replies they are really helpful and it is good to know we are not alone I just get so worried about making friends as we have a great circle of friends here and i know it takes time to form friendships. We are just wondering whether to book flights now as we leave in jan I know flights are expensive then. I think once flights are booked it all is becoming very real.
  21. Hello, We have our PR visa and have planned to make the move to Perth in Jan 2013. My husband is being more positive than me but I keep getting really worried about the whole move and keep wondering are we doing the right thing. I am just so scared. We already have one child she will be 4 and we have planned to have 2ndin oz. has anyone else had a baby over there and how would you compare your experience from that to the uk?? Also would be really nice to chat to other families who are going through the same emotional roller coaster. Jo x
  22. We already have our visa and are moving to Perth later in the year. My husband is a metal machinist and we are hoping that any of you who have had experince of finding similar work might give us some advice on what it was like trying to get a job, indication of salary etc. Many thanks Jo and Gareth
  23. I was just hoping for some general advice/personal experiences/opinions. We have already been granted our visa and we will be moving to Perth in Jan2013 and wondered what a good amount to take out there is to get set up with accommodation, cars etc. We don't have a massive amount of money as we are not selling our house here in the UK till we are sure we can settle in Oz and hopefully house prices will improve in the UK. So all we will have to take is the sale of our cars and savings that we have already. We are looking to move to Joondalup suburbs i.e. Mindarie/Butler/Quiins Rock area. Have already paid for a 12 week furnished rental which has cost us $9000, and will have to look for long term rental whist we are waiting for our container to arrive. We will hopefully both find job pretty quickly when we arrive my husband will be working full time and myself part-time. We have one child who is 4 years old. How much in regards of salary do you need to earn jointly to have a comfotable lifestyle?? and once we have paid out for flights, removals, initial accomodation. How much would we need in the bank initially to get by till we get a job?? I appreciate there is a lot of things to take into account but any help would be much appreciated. As we are not taking the equity out of our house just yet it seems a daunting experience going without a fare amount of dollars in the bank.
  24. Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. have just been looking at the price of buying a care and they are so expensive so will definately need to be financing one.
  25. Hi there, When we move to Oz we will need to buy 2 cars, here in the UK we finance one of our cars on HP. Does anyone know how car finance works in oz and how long you have to have been in work for etc before you will be approved? Thanks
