  1. This is visa fraud. And what is the long term plan, what happens when the first 457 visa expires?

Parent visa is the way to go.

He cant go for a parent visa as he has got my brother and sister living in the UK.

If your running your own business your normally on call 24/7 plus the hours worked in the week, book keeping and so on. All in all the hours mount up which prob would be over 38 hours per week.

When I first came out on a 457 sponsor. There was times where my employers work dryed up and was layed off for a few days but made it up over following weeks with call outs.

Thats just the way it goes with a small business.

As long as they can see your surporting your self with there required income they leave you alone.

Ive not seen the changes with the 457 and I know all the other visa's have changed thats why its difficult to find the right visa for him.

  2. I am a perminant resident on a 176 visa and my Father wants to move out here with us.

We are thinking of setting up a electrical contactors and pest control business but trying to work out which visa he could move out on.

He has ran a business him self for over 9 year and is also a manager at Dunlop in the UK. So he has plenty of experiance, qualifications and skills.

He only wants to semi-retire, so only really wants to work about 20 hours per week.

Which visa would be the best one to go for???

  3. 3 written exams ( which sound worse than they are ) and the practical is on chris`s house, to me he was watching most carefully for a safe method of working, so show him that your checking your instruments against a known sourse before using them to check if its live ( sorry active ) , check the supply, isolate and lock off safely before starting, he had us check continuaty and the earths from the meter box to the board in the garage, i took some lock off lables, hand tools, meggar and a pen n pad

dont worry hes not there to trip you up so theres no hidden suprises

    good luck

  5. hi - looking to make an application for a RSMS 857 sponsored visa. I am an electrician.

I have an employer who is keen to sponsor me.

However, need to know the process for skills assess for RSMS - I understand that it is not always essential.

    Thanks in advance!

You can only apply for a RSMS and ENS only if you have a full electrical Licence. Ive have had to apply for a 457 visa 1st until I can get a full Licence.

  6. Hi James

I was originally going for a 175 visa but then I was advised that the 176 skilled state sponsored visa would be the quicker option.:biglaugh:

I recieved Queensland Goverment nomination for my visa subclass 176 on the 10th of September and shortly after that I found out that any visa's lodged on or after the 23rd of september were not going to be finalised until the end of 2012. I thought I was one of the lucky one's until I realised electrician's were still off the critical skill's list.

    Thank's

    Glen

I am also moving to Queensland but had to find a sponcor as I did not want to wait till 2012. I was applying for ENS visa but later found out after paying for the employer nomination you can only apply for this visa if you have a full licence.

I am now applying for 457 long stay visa then waiting for my 176 to got through over there.

I have done my VETASSESS back in april and found a training company in Brisbane where you can complete the gap training in 3 to 4 months (thanks to Steveo) so this is the route Im going to follow. The biggest problem is trying to find some one to sponsor you. Not easy !!!!

Here is the link of the training company HomePage

    Hope this helps

  7. Wow! hasn't this thread really expanded from only a couple of posts!

Haven't been on for a while (been busy testing some banks - PIR's) and have just read through ALLl the posts - phew! what a roller coaster! :v_SPIN:

OK so now some what confused..........TRA or Vetassess? Have been collating all my info for Vetassess filled in forms, references, copies of certs etc, etc, but it looks like the quicker route is TRA.....am I correct? Or have I just read to many posts in one go?

You must complete the Vetassess if you live in the following countries United Kingdom, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Philippines for these nominated trades for the purpose of a visa. If you wanted to do the TRA route you can do this as a extra. Stupid, expensive and long winded rules !!!!!

  8. if you want to do it in brissie with a log book speak to chris at HomePage he runs his own rto, again its workbook by correspondance and a day at chris`s offices doing the exams, you will at exam stage have to had at least 4 months work in the old log book to enable him to sign you off, the other option is a local tafe ( college ) but to be honest its a non starter as the courses run feb to aug and if yu arrived in say march they would make you wait untill the next course

    regards steve

Cheers Steve, thanks for the info. Ill look into that, Im planning on moving over in October so give me plenty of time to sort things out. Im gonna try and get a placement before I leave the UK if not I think I may go down the peer route.

    Regards

    Stewart

  9. I have a friend in Brissy who says he did 6 months at RTO and filled log book out while working as a trade ass. said it want to bad and pay was acouple of dollars less. Its just getting a job though now!!!

Well im gonna try and leave my options open and go where ever I can get work in Qld. Not sure wether to go down the peer route to improve my chances but just wanted to see what sort of feed back from people that have done the gap training route.

  10. I found this post the other day on another site it conferms the route that Steve has talked about -

got an email from the OCBA that finally explains the process of getting a license in south australia.

the process will stay the same for anyone assessed by TRA. get ARTC certificate and do the regs course at PEER, then you can get full license.

    if you have been assessed by vetassess then the PEER option is out unfortunately. the ocba says you can apply for a restricted license as soon as you arrive by producing your ostr certificate. you would then have to work under supervision until you have completed the necessary gap training. this is what the OCBA said;

If you are from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the Philippines, you can obtain an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) through VETASSESS to assist in your application for a restricted workers registration. If you are a migrant with the following skills; general plumber/gas fitter, general electrician, air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, cable jointer, and electrical power lines tradesperson, VETASSESS will assess your technical skills and list the units of competencies that you have completed on the OTSR.

Once you have obtained an OTSR, you can apply with OCBA for a restricted registration to work under direct supervision until you complete the gap training requirements.

When you have completed your gap training, you will be issued a certificate (from the list overleaf), and you will then be able to apply for a change in condition of your registration with OCBA.

The OTSR must show you have been assessed as having the required technical skills in one of the following qualifications. Please note you will be required to present an original or certified copy of your certificate with your application.

    Restricted Electrical Workers Registration:

    • Certificate III - Electro technology Electrician (UEE30806)

    • Certificate III - Electrical Supply Industry - Distribution (UET30206), and/or

    • Certificate III - Electrical Supply Industry - Cable Jointing (UET30406),

    • Certificate in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning), or

    • Certificate III in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (UEE31306)

  11. When I done my VETASSESS I was speaking to the assessor and he said that you need to have a A Licence to work on your own as a spark but to be paid legaly you need the contractors Licence too. Not 100% what the contactor licence is but I think it may be the same as our CIS card in the UK.

    HI Guys

Just wondering if anyone knows is there a difference between the A licence and a contractors licence if so what the differences are

    Cheers Neil

  12. Can any one who has done the VETASSESS practical help me? I have the test on the 7th of April at blackburn college and im worried about the DOL motor as I have never done this before apart from the AM2 and that was years ago and I can see from this thread that some people have failed on this. Is it just a three phase 3 wire motor or a 6 wire star/delta motor. I want to download a drawing so I can see how to wire it up or does any one have a drawing of the set up you can email me - stewartbeades@hotmail.com

    Thanks
