  1. Hi All, We are really in need of another opinion, We are due to fly out to Hobart Feb 17th 2013 and need to make our minds up whether of not its worth us taking the "whole house" in a container, or to start again and leave it here. We are not sure if airlines allow migrants extra luggage for essentials, i.e paperwork, HUsbands tools of trade, and sentimental items? we have had quotes of around £5,000 for a 20ft Container and was wondering what the cost of furniture is like in tas (ie, ikea like) if we were to start again? Any help would be greatly appreciated Ellie & Ray xxxxx

  3. Hi guys, I wonder if there's anyone of you fellow British sparks that can shed a bit of light on a bit of a worrying issue....Here goes, me, my wife and our 4 kids are moving from Kent uk to Hobart tasmania in February 2013 I am a JIB Sparks and its seems as though the best I can be hoping for over there at theinute is labouring jobs?? Anyone hot any better news or should I give oz a second thought??CheersRay

  5. Hi Chris, thanks for that and yes our decision has to be based around our four children's needs (1,3,6 & 9 yrs) with regards to leisure activities and schooling would you say that the Kingston area is an ideal base? We have had a read up on the local schools and they sound fine.. my wife likes her coffee shops and a gentle mooch around the local shops here is there any of either close to Kingston or would she have to go into Hobart for her fix lol? Thanks again Ray
  6. Thanks for all your info guys its a massive help on pre decision making. Thank you.
  7. We've been looking into schools, rentals and places within a commutable distance to Hobart for work reasons and we are half settled on heading to Kingston as it seems to tick all the boxes to start.... Does anyone have any experience with this area??
  8. We'll be in Tassie on the 17th February WOOP WOOP. We finally got our visas through and we now in the process of booking our 4 week holiday accomodation around hobart so we can have a good nose around and see where looks to suits us and our childrens needs. Any pointers regarding (rental) house hunting, (electrical) job hunting etc would be very much appreciated. Ray, Ellie Phoebe (9), Raymond(6), Bonnie(3) & Bayden(1)
  9. Hi Everyone, I'll be moving from the uk to taz (hobart initially) Feb 2013 and really starting to get concerned about the facts of gaining the australian equivelant to my fully qualified JIB Electricians ticket i have here in the UK.... i know there is quite a large thread concerning many sparks experiences throughout OZ but none that i've noticed regarding TAZ, so if there is any sparks that have any true experiences please let me know. Thanks Ray :swoon:
  10. Hi all, on another note I don't suppose anyone has any pointers about some reasonably price self catering accommodation for the first 4 weeks when we arrive next February, relatively close to Hobart for ease of transport initially? Thanks
  11. Once again, thank you very much!!
  12. Thanks for all your pointers Skani... talk soon.
  13. Hi Skani, thanks a lot as that all sounds as though it may be very helpful when we're out there looking around, i think ideally for the first first rental wise we'll be looking for a nice quiet suburb out the way close to a beach to allow us and mainly the kids to get used to the tassie way but when we look to buy if something with a smallish acreage popped up out of the way but still an hours commute to hobart then that is what we'd head for, looking on the real estate website we should be able to get what we're after. how easy or difficult is it to get a morgage out there do you know???? thanks
  14. Hi Cass, thats great to know someone thats going through the same thing and ending up at the same place. We're in Greenhithe by the dartford tunnel. hows your whole process been?
  15. Hi, we're looking to move to tasmania next feburary and just putting the feelers out there on where to initially head to, we have hobarts rural surrounds in mind as we have four children that love the outdoors and as we're moving from the borders of london, uk we definitely be after somewhere a bit more rural and within an hours commute is fine with me. so any advise on the above would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
