  1. Is that because you've acclimatised ? Yesterday it got down to 16c at 4 in the morning. In Scotland wouldn't that be summer temps?

I think partly they find it cold is due to them becoming acclimatized, however, most people will admit that the houses in Perth are not built for the winter nights.

When I lived in Perth, it got bloody cold in the house at night in the winter, and I personally found it harder to deal with that, than being bundled up in my nice warm house in a Canadian winter.

But I must admit, I do miss being in Perth.

    Cheers

  3. Well the HR for the PNG job have been asking a few more details about his current visa so he's obviously still in the running.

I did think I was going into labour this morning so have a few more pressing things to deal with!

Wishing your OH good luck, and let us know when the new baby arrives. Bet you can't wait.

  4. But at least with Lost they had a range of characters and mysteries to draw on. This story is going top centre on the boy, his parents and the FBI agent who fills in the narrative.

Actually, it doesn't just centre around the boy. Won't give away anything, but there is more to this series than just the boy. Watch and see.

  5. Just wanted to wish you well on your move back.

Good luck on the sale of the house.

Lots of peeps on here who are either returning or have already returned.

Feel free to ask away if you need help.

  6. Just watching CNN, and the FBI have stated that the tickets for the people traveling on the stolen passports, were brought and paid for in cash by someone in Iran.

It just boggles my mind that it has been 3 days already, and still no sign of any part of the aircraft. Hope they find something soon, the agony of not knowing must be hard on the families of those on the flight.

  7. I don't think the wait time to see a doctor is restricted just to the UK. In Canada we have a doctors shortage, and there people who can't even get their own doctor and have to relie on walk in clincs or emerg.

However, give me the type of health care, the UK, Canada and Australia offer, over the US system any day of the week. I for one don't mind paying taxes for universal health care.

  8. Very loose use of the word warmest......................................................average temp of 5.1C positively tropical :biglaugh:

Jeez, some of you Poms really are wimps when it comes to the weather. Come to Canada, where we have been dealing with wind chill values in the minus 30's, and there was a 96 car pile up yesterday due to a sudden snow squall.

To me 5 degrees is tropical compared to minus 22 that we had today.

Good on the UK for not having a cold and brutal winter. Enjoy it, wish I was there.

    Cheers

  9. For me personally it is the humidity that can make or break whether it is too hot or not. I enjoyed the heat of Perth, as it was a dry heat, although over 40 was too hot. Here in Canada, it may only be 33 degrees but with high humidity, it can feel like 43 or 44, and that is way worse than 40 dry heat.

We have had the other problem this winter in Canada, there have been some days too cold to go outside. Again it was windchill this time.

Send some heat over here, so we can melt the huge snowbanks lol.

  10. When I saw Kate's post on Facebook, I was very saddened, then to find out that it was Janet, Munch, is hard to take in. Janet had such a wonderful personality and was a great Mod to work alongside. She will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, RIP Janet.

  11. Hi Alistair and welcome to the forum. Check out the migration section of the forum, lots of helpful folk to help you.

There are some other folk from the US looking at moving to Oz who are on the forum.

Good luck on your journey, bet you wish you were in Oz now, with all the lovely winter weather we are having.

Whereabouts are you looking to move to in Australia?.

    Cheers

  12. Yeah...my wife joined me from Toronto ...a month ago...shez alright with this weather...She is a cold person...didn't like Perth much. as it was warm and sunny.

Your wife is a crazy cannuck, she is probably feeling right at home in NYC. Tell her Southern Ontario is getting hammered right now. 4 counties have closed all roads in Midwestern Ontario.

    Cheers

    Karen (another crazy cannuck lol)

  13. Not sure if you can get it in Oz, but we use a product called After Bite. It's main ingredient is ammonia. It stings a bit when you first put it on, but it takes the itch and swelling away. My dad is allergic to mozzie bites and always has a tube of After Bite with him.

Yep we get them bad here in Canada too....bloody annoying insects.

    Cheers

  14. I feel your pain. I too lived in Perth and am back in Southern Ontario Canada. It is like a blizzard right now. Our high tomorrow is forecast at -19c with a wind chill of -38c.

Good news is that our house is warm and the coffee is hot and cheap.

Keep warm and safe my friend.

    Cheers

    Karen
