We have lived near Newcastle for 3 and a half years now. We are in Belmont right on the lake and also just 5 mins from the beach at Blacksmiths . I think south of the city is nicest around the East side of Lake Macquarie you wont go far wrong ( don't pick Windale/ Mount Hutton though, high crime rate) . Plenty of good spots for picnics here , not far from Charlestown for shopping, easy commute by road to town. Also only an hour and a half to Sydney. Quick drive to Central coast which is gorgeous in some places, and the same for Nelson Bay just above Newcastle fabulous beaches and pretty harbour. Caves Beach is also nice. Warners Bay , Elebana and Belmont North. Best to try and rent in one of these for 6 months and get a feel for the place before you pick a permanent suburb.

We had Grace this end unloading our stuff, they seem to be one of the biggest names here. Thanks for the tip about insurance, thats really helpful. :smile:

Hi. thanks for the reply. We have been here for about 3 years now. We really like Australia and are planning to return in a few years to retire, although it will be up in Queensland as its too cold in winter here !We came over with PSS who were great and Grace this end who were OK. We will need a whole container as we have a house full of stuff and have just started shopping around. We expect to go back around February, I think it makes a difference what time of year you ship back your stuff. How long have you been here ?

We are going back to the UK early next year. Can anyone recommend removal companies in the Newcastle area please . We need a 20ft container and insurance , obviously as cheap as possible.

I moved over to the Newcastle area before Christmas and although I am working I have nothing to do at the weekends. I enjoy fishing, going out, recently started using the gym ( on my own ) but I am bored of my own company lol Is there anyone out there in the same boat ? (Don't be put off by the avatar photo, it's my Mums account, just highjacked it to post a thread ! )

Hi Will, know the feeling. It has been the same for us. We live at Caves Beach, our son has it hardest , he is 22 and knows no one apart from the guys at work who are all a lot older. What sort of age group and interests are you looking at.

Hi, we have been here 18 months now and love the area. We found the East side of the lake is more central to everything. There are plenty of nice suburbs to choose from, I suppose it depends on where you are working but Belmont, Marks Point,Blacksmiths, Swansea, and Caves beach are at the bottoms end of the lake ( this is the end we chose, it's lovely). If you are looking to live closer to Newcastle and Charlestown then Valentine , Eleebana, Warners Bay, Croudace Bay, and Speers Point are closer and very nice. Avoid Mount Hutton and Windale area ! Can't tell you about schools as ours are all grown up. Hope this helps a bit. Good Luck !
