  1. We used them although it was a local company but under the bigger umbrella of GB Liners when we moved from Scotland to Perth 4 1/2 years ago. We had a number of things damaged due to inadequate packing. Corners of pictures with little protection, dining table damaged at ends, acrylic computer chair scratched. We opted not to use them on our return. The branch we used was obviously in a different area to you so you may have a completely different experience.
  2. Have a look at this website, haven't used them myself but the apartments are all central for exploring. http://www.westperthapartments.com/
  3. We were in Australia for three years and my life insurance policies were still valid. I checked this with the companies before we moved and as long as the premiums were being paid from a UK bank account then they were happy.
  4. I agree, this part of the forum is essential reading to get a balance before you make the big move but I stand by my previous comments that the poster was quite vocal mentioning winging poms in a section for MBTTUK and the original question was "what are the main reasons you moved back".
  5. Agreed HappyHeart. I didn't think they were offensive, just vocal. Having been a member on here for years (more reading than posting) I've seen how a thread can deteriorate badly and no newbie wants to get caught up in that. I'm genuinely pleased for them that they are loving where they live, that's what we all ultimately want.
  6. I did not intend to offend anyone but the newbie poster was quite vocal in their views. Yes, we don't always read which part of the forum we are on but surely we know what we are responding to.
  7. You would have to check restrictions on the amount of cash you can take out of Australia/bring into the UK if you decide to carry it rather than send electronically. We used HIFX both in UK and Australia for all our transfers and they were very good. You will need to set up an account with them. You can do this well before even thinking about doing a transfer.
  8. With regards to Super Fund, you cannot claim this back until such times as your temp visa is cancelled. When we did it 20 months ago it was through immigration in Tasmania. Employer advised them to cancel visa but wasn't done so I requested it to be cancelled while at the same time setting up a claim online to get super fund back. You won't get your super until they have confirmation from immigration that the visa has been cancelled. If I remember correctly it took about 3-4 months for it to all be finalised and money paid into our Australian bank account, easier than trying to get it into UK account. We also had lots of phone calls to Super Fund provider along with some notorised documents (exit stamp on passport, driving license). Hope that helps.
  9. You are posting in "Moving Back To UK" thread. The original poster asked "what are the main reasons you moved back", not "why do you love it here". I think you're missing the point of this thread.
  10. We, me, hubby and 2 kids have been back in the UK for 20 months now. We were in Perth for 3 years and I knew from very early on that it wasn't for me. Thankfully hubby also felt the same so we very quickly put our plan in place for re-entry into the UK. The kids (now 8 and 11) enjoyed Oz but equally enjoy being back home. We do miss some things about Perth but we liken it to missing the things on a good holiday. We had many ups and downs over our three years and had many times where we felt we couldn't cope any longer but we had a plan and pushed through to stick to it to hopefully make it easier at this end. Perth is a very isolating city and so far from anywhere with very little to do...........only so many times you can do the Fremantle Prison tours. I don't regret going because I'll never be saying "what if" and it reaffirmed where we want to be. I feel for everybody who is unhappy there because I've been there and know that it's so hard to live thinking your have no way out.
  11. Remember to put any documents that you may need right away before your container arrives in a safe pile to hand carry.
  12. Here is the link for all the info/forms that you will need to have your visa cancelled and then claim back your Super. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/superannuation/
