  1. Some interesting thoughts folks, nice one! so is there any hostels in sydney that would be recommended to stay in for this period of time so they are accessible for Bondi and the Harbour for the fireworks on NYE?
  2. Slightly premature considering its only August however I arrive in September to Melbourne and time will soon fly by. I am wondering where you folks consider the best place to spend Xmas for backpackers as family isnt really in the equation unfortunately! Internal Australian flights will increase no doubt between now and then so maybe booking something sooner if I am to leave Melbourne for Xmas might be a good idea! Would love to hear your thoughts!
  3. That is true, however I am sure you will have no problem meeting people as soon as your arrive aswell. Planning to stay in St Kilda but yet to decide on a hostel. From what I have read Base seems to be a good one but I need to research more into it. We looked at the STA travel package but tbh we can set up bank accounts easily online in Scotland before we arrive and tax file number you just apply for on arrivalto Australia. So you pay for the opportunity to do activities which are planned for you but you also pay a price for that privilege!
  4. Is it not that Australian companies have to actively seek australian nationals to employ before they consider foreigners? thats what i have been told from various law firms in Australia when I have been seeking internship opportunities
  5. Arriving mid-september to melbourne, not a clue which hostel to stay in yet or anything and hoping to secure a job relatively quickly but the Jury is out as to whether this is likely or not from some of the threads I have read on here about unemployment etc!
  6. I have heard that the online RSA test isnt an accepted form of the RSA and your best bet is to register for a half day course when you arrive in Australia. Thats what I'm going to do I think rather than spend money online and find out it isnt legit!
  7. May i ask the OP which state you are currently in and looking for work? coming to Melbourne in 5 weeks time and i hope i can seek a job relatively quickly doing anything tbh!
  8. Hey folks, Arriving in Melbourne in September with 3 of my mates from Scotland on a WHV, all aged 22!. Ofcourse we know each other really well but we don't know a soul out in Australia so it would be cool to meet some people on here who are in a similar position or indeed anyone who fancies meeting us! It would be great to meet some folk and share experiences etc Cheers:jimlad:
  9. I am Scottish so please excuse me for my lack of knowledge towards Kevin Rudd's policies, but does he have any different views on immigration compared to Gillard?
  10. Arriving in Melbourne from Scotland on 22nd September!
  11. Travelling on a WHV to Australia in September with the intention of staying in Sydney for a period of time before travelling up the East coast. I may be interested when I arrive to do my 3 months Agricultural work for 2nd year WHV. Is there any work going in Sydney that would allow me to stay in central sydney and travel each day or is most farm work quite far away? Could the wages earned from this work support a living and further allow me to save money whilst in Sydney? Thanks Folks
  12. I need some of this! Will be arriving in October this year, cannot wait.
  13. thanks for the replies all sounds about similar to me! and im the same hoping to work as soon as i get to Australia so hoping finances will be ok! jaymeeo just finishing my law degree at the moment aswell, hopefully get a job in a cafe/bar/restaurant though! Will already have a return flight booked so this should also help with getting into Australia
  14. I intend to travel to Australia on a WHV and live in Sydney in September/October 2013. How much money will i need to have with me to allow me into the country? I heard it varies and depends on a case by case basis. If i have £3000 is this enough or do i need a credit card to back me up etc? thanks
  15. This would be a great move by the Australian Government allowing individuals to work in hospitality sectors to permit them the second year on a WHV rather than solely agricultural work. This would appeal to a lot more travellers and could arguably decrease the likelihood of those cheating the system getting farmers to illegally sign paperwork as there will be opportunity to work in industries that people wish to work in. http://www.australiaforum.com/information/immigration/australia-working-holiday-visa-programme-may-be-extended.html
