Are you meaning the Australian customs ????, in my case in Freemantle, Perth. I was wondering how you went about finding someone to value your vehicle when it arrived in OZ..... I thought I had read somewhere people getting valuations done for their vehicles whilst still in the UK in readyness for when it eventually arrives in OZ.....or am I wrong ??.

Yes always helpful information.......imagine what life would be like without these forums or computers/internet for that matter....... I presume you mean both cars are going in the 40 foot container with the 480 cu ft of house stuff........the cost of the container is the main factor for me as I think that is the size we are going to need....... You say you're sorting out the car stuff once they arrive there, presume this is the customs, AQIS, and state regulations/workshop pits etc.......have you sorted out for the cars to be valued for customs yet ??.....just wondering what other paperwork is involved as I'm planning on taking my vehicle...... Ironchef answered an earlier question about this for me and apparantely its acceptable to have both on the dash speedo but the oddometer needs changing by law to read in KPH...

Just a quick question if anyone knows, as I have trawled through the websites and cant seem to get an answer.......for a normal vehicle import application does all the paperwork need to be certified by someone similar to when we made the visa application.....

My van wing mirrors have both..........a large flat mirror which is perhaps 75% the size of the wing mirror and the smaller mirror at the bottom is a convex mirror..............would this smaller mirror need replacing ??????????????.

Yes you do........ seems a little daft that people, who have spent thousands of pounds and many months getting a visa to migrate including all the info and hoops you have to produce and jump through, then have to go through another points system to prove they are going to permanently move to Australia to take a vehicle.... Not only that but the points that you are required to get seem near on impossible for a big majority to get. For instance you are staying in a holiday let first off before moving onto a more permanent let or possibly purchase which is what the biggest majority of people do........why cant this holiday let do for the purpose of importing your vehicle ????????..........Also I would have thought that the big majority of people would be organising things like this long before they were commited to finishing their jobs/houses/commiting to container shippers/ or perhaps even Australian requirements..... Well I managed to sort out the visa process by myself and the help of P.I.O. so I suppose I'll sort this problem out with P.I.O. help also............ Cheers Carlos

Just been reading the brochure VSB10 about info for importing your vehicle and it seems to me that the majority of people would be stuffed when it comes to meeting the 50 point requirment ,...here's a copy 50 points; you must supply at least 1 of the 50 points documents 1 your employment details, such as a letter from your Australian employer; 2 your resignation from employment in your former country of residence. 3 a rental agreement/purchase agreement for your residential property in Australia; (ie, longstanding holiday or second homes do not count) 4 the sale of your residential property in your former country of residence; 5 the cancellation of your residential rental property in your former country of residence; ......in my case.. 1.. I havn't got a job to move to in Australia, 2..I'm self employed here in the UK, 3...we can't get a rental agreement until we are in Australia (we are actually going to be staying with friends for a while when we arrive), .. 4... we're not selling our house but are renting it out to my sister without using a rental agent ,... 5...we're not renting a property in the uk so cant cancel a rental agreement I really want to take my van.....so how can I get around these problems .....any one help...... Is that a typo should it be ....shouldn't be an issue...and can I ask if your generalising or have you had specific dealings with the Vivaro/Trafic I heard that you get charged extra taxes if you fill up your vehicle with your stuff....is this correct or not ?????? 'Air Con' I agree would be a must....Dont suppose you got any idea of installed cost for this in WA ??......

Hi Mr Iron Chef.......Reading this thread it appears your knowledge on this subject is legendary......Ok enough with the buttering up.... I would like to know what your thoughts are on importing to OZ my 2004 Vauxhall Vivaro Van, 2.5L, 2900, DTi, LWB with full roof racking, tow bar and built in hands free bluetooth. Its only got 30 000 on the clock and is pretty much a minter but perhaps only worth £5000 in the UK. I can see that the vivaro isnt widely used in OZ but the Renault Trafic is which is pretty much the same van. I would perhaps run this into the ground if I brought it because its such a good drive, although it aint got 'Air Con'......also not sure about the other costs involved with the import and whether these would make it a viable move. My last question is....would my van actually fit in a shipping container ????? Thanks for your help Carlos

My feelings are, if you have decided to move permanentely to Australia as a migrant and have shown this by paying for medicals and getting a permanent visa as well as the cost of shipping all your worldly goods and paying for flights to get there, surely the Australian government could see this and give a little, allowing them to bring their vehicles as a one off move, to these new settlers as a gesture of good will. Its not like they have lived in OZ a few years and are trying to make a fast buck out of importing vehicles.......
