Out of boundaries application for secondary college

Hi all, not posted for a few week, as you can imagine there is still lots of forms to fill out, people to see and importantly having to find the best deals in the liquor stores when you first arrive in Oz !!! Our daughter went back to primary school for yr7 here in Perth. We have started to look at secondary colleges and have found one that has a very good reputation, only thing is that it is just outside the catchment area, just being a road away !!! We can put a out of boundaries application in so we have got together all reports, certificates etc from her last years at primary school in the uk.. Do you think that we should also attach a covering letter ? If so what sort of detail should I put in it? Thanks ....

Hi,

Definitely think you need a cover letter explaining why you want this school instead of the school you are in the zone for. We did this in Sydney a while ago when our son was starting Primary School - we explained that we were renting the property we were currently in for a year because there wasn't anything closer to the school, and that as soon as the lease was up we'd be looking to move closer to school. We also included names of people our son would know at the school etc. Basically reasons why they should give you a place...mostly based on the social and academic benefits for your child.

By the way, we didn't get a spot because the school took no out of area applications that year but I still think trying to write a convincing cover letter gives you the best chance of getting a place. Good luck!
