Guest
Channel 40 is basically for general road use, ie anyone who is driving. http://www.uhfcb.com.au/40-Channel-UHF-Infomation.php Really just means thats the one most motorists using UHF/CB will have their set on that channel most of the time...in theory, depending where you are, there is always someone in range

Do you need a call sign etc?
Guest
In theory you can chat to whoever is on there, the normal protocol for a 'chat' is to start talking on 40 then move to one of the other channels, 12, 13, 14 etc...the general use ones. Doesnt guarantee that someone else isnt already having a conversation on that channel already (within range). If you have an emergency you can call for help on channel 40, it has the best chance of someone hearing it in theory because thats what people generally are listening to, there are dedicated channels for emergencies and again in theory someone will be listening somewhere. http://www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/comms-equipment/ How familiar looking is the layout to that website?????? As far as callsins go, no you dont need one, you make up your own user name...easiest thing is to just listen to it for a bit...like the newbies coming on here for the first time
