Getting work for a year in Oz

Hi Everyone

 

Can anyone help with advice on trying to find work for a year in Oz, at my age?

 

My girlfriend has just found out that she was successful in securing a years' internship at the AIS in Canberra, starting January 2007. I'm just about to qualifiying as a carpenter (although I've just turned 36! and no it's not a mid-life crisis!) and I'm committed to living and working in Oz for the year. By the time we come out in January I expect to have 6 months experience as a site carpenter.

 

Does anyone know anyone who's been in a similar situation, that might be able to offer advice? Is it really as difficult as it seems?
