Hi all,

I've had a job offer in SA. So far, from phoning the Australian Embassy in London, I've gathered that the 119/857 RSMS is a valid choice for both myself and my potential employer (he's asking that I check all this out). I checked the site and SA is definitely eligible for RSMS (the whole of SA).

Now, I've already been assessed by the ACS as a 2231-79 (NEC) Security Specialist (MODL) and it's probably good that I have that. My potential employer has an IT support position for me, so my ACS assessment will have nothing to do with the job title although I already have 10 years experience in IT support and can prove that in my MCITP qualification and CV. Based on this situation I have a few questions. The DIAC site lists the following for eligibility:

You must:

- have the relevant qualifications for the nominated position, which is equivalent to at least an Australian diploma level ---> Trying to find this one out!

- meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements which allow you to work unsupervised and without further training ---> There are no registration or professional membership requirements for IT Support, checked on DIAC site

- have been offered a full time position for a fixed term of at least two years (supported by evidence of a contract or letter of appointment signed by both the employer and the employee) ---> Yep, going to happen

- be under 45 years old ---> Easily below this age

- have Functional English language ability --->UK Passport holder and born in England

1. One of the requirements of the 119/857 RSMS for the employee is that I:

"have the relevant qualifications for the nominated position, which is equivalent to at least an Australian diploma level" is my MCITP considered as such? I think it is, but not so sure! The ACS were pretty useless and I did email them asking and they said that I must refer to DIAC.

2. Does the job title matter that the employer wants to employ me under and does the job title have to appear on any SOL or otherwise? I phoned a migration agent who said that the job title doesn't matter at all, it can be anything, they just have to prove to the local Regional Certifying Body that the role cannot be filled from local stock. The Australian Embassy in London said that if the case officer felt I'd been assessed under the wrong ASCO code that it may just be adjusted? Does anybody have any experience of this?

I'd be so very grateful for any input!

Cheers,

Hi I am in a similar situation - also a security consultant :)

looking to sort things out under a 119 and wondered if anyone could confirm whether a skills assessment was a requirement.

I also have 10 years experience and a Masters Degree so not worried, it just saves time & £££ if i dont have to do one!

Alixir - I'd certainly try and match things as much as possible, anyone I've spoken to has no idea about our industry and if it is not obvious then they are unlikely to pick up on it!

Do let me know how you get on !

Regards

Okay all, found out that MCITP is the equivalent of an Australian Diploma as stated on the ACS site. I qualified for a successful 'Group B' assessment for which the requirements are:

http://www.acs.org.au/assessment/docs/Current_PIMGuidelines.pdf

2.3. GROUP B

Qualifications Criteria

2.3.1. Applicants with

(a) an Australian AQF Diploma or Australian AQF Advanced Diploma with a major in ICT, or

an Australian Bachelor degree, or Graduate Diploma, or higher qualification with a

minor (sub-major) in ICT; or

(b) an overseas qualification assessed as being comparable to an Australian AQF Diploma

or an Australian AQF Advanced Diploma with a major in ICT, or an Australian

Bachelor degree, or Graduate Diploma, or higher qualification with a minor (submajor)

in ICT.

2.3.2. As a guide for an AQF Diploma or an AQF Advanced Diploma or overseas equivalent, the

ICT content must be at least 50%.

2.3.3. As a guide for a minor (sub-major) for a Bachelor degree the ICT content must be at least

20%.

2.3.4. As a guide for a Graduate Diploma or higher degree qualification described in 2.2.5 above,

a minor (sub-major) must relate to a program with an ICT content of at least 50%.

2.3.5. As a guide for a Post Graduate Diploma or higher degree qualification described in 2.2.6

above, a minor (sub-major) must relate to a program with ICT content of at least 15% and

less than 33%.

So yep, I'd say that says I have the equivalent of a Australian Bachelor Degree...

Oh Von, if you need any advice on my 119 application so far, drop me a line...the role that the employer nominates HAS to appear on the SOL list. No point in getting assessed as of yet as there is no MODL and the states are about to pull the plug on the SOL lists (SA will do this on the 14th of May, as for the other states, I really don't know!)...

Thanks for the input so far guys =] I'll keep you updated once I know any more...

Hi Mr.George Lombard / All experts,

Some one holds Professional Graduate Diploma in IT offered by BCS UK

(This level is the academic equivalent to Year 3 of a UK university honours degree.

It is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 6.) and having 4 years of experience as a software engineer ( Java / J2EE ) will be able to pass ACS assessment?

Also to which group does above mention qualification falls in ACS skills assessment (Group A / Group B)?

Thanks

Anne.
