Zoot
What about looking into temporary work? I have found here in Oz that companies seem to rely on temporary staff a lot and in all fields not only secretarial/administrative. Many companies seem to be very risk averse and wont take on foreigners because you dont come with a long Oz track record and they dont know where you worked before (is it a good company or a bad company) and they dont know what your skills and work ethic are like etc etc but for temp work they are not so fussed cause if you dont perform they can kick you out. Am not sure what field you are in but state governments and city councils employ quite diverse groups of people (from labourers and horticulturists through to business professionals) so what you could do is phone them up find out what agencies they get their staff through and then contact those agencies - also ask those agencies who else specialises in your type of work Then when you are temping you can see if there are any permanent roles available in your line of work. This will allow the company to "try before they buy" as it were.
