Flights

Hi all,

Im looking for flights to Oz in November. Am getting prices for 3 adults (my step son is 15) coming in for about £800 each. This is with Singapore Airlines on the A380, as I know Singapore Airlines are good to fly with.

Anyone got any good websites, or know when there is likely to be any sales etc for flights.

All comments, and experiences are welcome!!

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna.

Try Cheap flights: compare prices, find airline tickets, or Cheap Flights - Compare prices on cheap flights, airlines & last minute deals. As far as sales go I would recommend that you sign up with several different flight websites and join their mailing lists, at least in this way you will have the prices come to you. Ref the Singapore A380, I'm not sure if you have ever flown with Singapore before, but in my opinion they are by far and away the best airline out there, others may disagree though. And the A380 is a fantastic aircraft. Even though it only has a few more centimeters more in seat depth, recline, etc, on the long, long, long, flight to Australia it does make a massive difference, especially if you have children with you.

Hope this helps.

Can't say about the A380 as have not been on it yet.

We are in the Midlands and we get good deals on Emirates from Birmingham and they are OK....good in flight entertainment.

And Gatwick is often cheaper too but a long way for us to trek.

So regional airports make sense if you are near one.

Whoever you fly with sign up for frequent flyer...you never know when you might use the airline again and you get a lot of miles on Oz flights just because of the distance.

We have just used our air miles to upgrade.

We use Trailfinders and Netflights.

thanks both.

I have flown with Singapore before, which is why I was looking at them more than any of the other airlines. have also heared some shocking stories about Quantas.

I have signed up to the loyalty scheme with Singapore Air, but how do i go about collecting Air miles??

Hi Donna.

If you have signed up with 'Krisflyer' with Singapore all you do is quote your membership number to them when you book, either over the phone or online. Keep an eye however on your miles accrued, as there are time limits on such awards. You can extend them, but it does cost. Three years is the normal time frame before any mileage allocation is lost.

Forgot to say Donna. Singapore also have affiliate companies who will also award mileage to your account. Hilton, avis, etc. So it is worth logging into Singapore.com and seeing which partner businesses are in the programme at the moment, all mounts up in the end.

In my opinion as a professional travel agent the whole A380 thing is being blown out of all proportion,it is after all just another aircraft and carriers that are operating it have increased their fares to cover the introduction of it,yes it is a great design and it is very comfortable but if given a choice between paying extra to travel on it and saving some money I know which way I would go.

Also please don't be fooled into thinking that the cheapest airfares are necessarily on the internet, indeed there are many special fares that never make it to websites and are limited to travel agents,I always suggest that you have a clear idea of when you want to travel, get three quotes from internet sites like Cheap flights by Just the Flight UK discount air fares specialist or Travel deals: cheap flights, hotels, holidays, city breaks - travel cheaper with Expedia! or any other good flight search site.then take the three quotes to a licensed high street travel agent, any good agent worth his salt will beat or at least match a genuine internet quote and you have the peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong you have a human that you can speak to for assistance, also one thing I advise against is constant trawling the net looking for fares because airlines GDS reservations systems work on availability rules called fare buckets which means there are only so many seats available at a certain price so if for instance you search for a fare on a certain date with a certain airline and get a fare of x dollars then go away and search on another site for the same airline then return to the original site you may well find that the fare has changed because the system has noticed increased demand for that day and adjusted the fare buckets accordingly.

I agree that signing up for airline email specials is a great idea-you can often get advance notice of sales this way and that means that you can get in before all the good seats are sold.

The link for the Singapore Airlines newsletter is-

Singapore Airlines

By the way having flown more than 700 times with Qantas I can honestly say that the stories you hear about Qantas are just that-stories,I have had very few bad flights with them, certainly no more than any other airline I have flown with in my 12 years as an agent, but if you have quotes of sub £1000.00 for November flights on SQ then I suggest you book them,I expect airfares to rise this year as the fuel price increases and as we reach the bottom of the fare discount cycle.
