Flying with Kitesurfing gear

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone can help. We are about to book our flights with Singapore Air for the begining of February. Have just worked out it will cost us approx £700 to take OH's kitesurfing gear. It weighs approx 30kilos and is considered sports luggage.

Normally only costs around £60 to take to destinations in Europe and £700 seems quite expensive. The only way we can reduce the cost is if we include it in our bagage allowance. We are lucky that we can take 40kilos but didn't really want to include the kites in the allocation.

Has anyone had a similar experince or have any ideas?

Thanks

Why dont you ship the kites as unaccommpanied bagage? It works out much cheaper than pay as excess bagage charge. If you contact a frieght agent they should be able to give you the rates for unaccompanied bagage.

Thanks SunnyWA. Have already had a quote from UPS for approx £300 and it will only take around 12 days so OH will not be without kites etc for too long!!

Just a bit worrying though as a few of his friends are already planning their visits to stay with us so i have told them to research airline sports gear policies before booking tickets as they will not want to pay out huge amounts if only coming for a couple of weeks.

Thanks

B
