When I came out on a working holiday visa a few years ago, I needed a minimum £2,000 I think and a return air ticket. I think this was to show you had a means of leaving the country. I had to provide bank statements to prove it. When I applied for 457 visa this issue was never raised and know of others who have arrived with hundreds rather than thousands of pounds.
