Leaving Aus to Travel and move to the UK

Hi,

My girlfriend and I have been living in Australia for the last 18 months-ish but are leaving in March to travel back to the UK via NZ, Indonesia, Sumatra, South East Asia and possibly Sri Lanka (money allowing)

The trip is roughly going to be 4-5 months and we will be moving back to the UK permanently.

Has anyone got any experience with what travel insurance would cover us? I have read the only other forum article I could find and gone through Google with a fine tooth comb but the only options I can find seem to suggest that we wouldn't have any cancellation cover as, in their eyes, we are already travelling.

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for the swift response.

We are both on a 457 visa and can't extend our insurance to cover the travels.

I've not checked STA yet but they've only come up for 'backpacker' insurance which seems to have you returning to Aus after which doesn't work for us.

Thanks, I have tried them already as most people suggest they're good for this kind of situation.

However, they said that as we are already in Australia, despite having lived here for some time, they view us as already travelling so we wouldn't have any cancellation cover in case something happens before we actually leave.

I may be having some luck with DUinsurance but I'm waiting for confirmation in more detail from them.

Having spoken further to World Nomads we ended up going with them as after reading through the fine print we have found that we are actually covered by them.

The wording was slightly confusing regarding cancellation/curtailment but we found that curtailment would actually cover us as we're considered already travelling.

Thanks all for your help.
