Guest Gollywobbler
Hi As far as I know, all the visas that confer Permanent Residence immediately also confer immediate access both to Medicare and to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Precription charges are higher in Oz than they are here and the price is per item (eg a 3-month supply of Drug XYZ, and you pay the same again for three months of Drug ABC.) However, there is a safety net that kicks in after you have spent $900 or so in a year. I'm fuzzy about the exact details, but please see here: http://www.health.gov.au/pbs The compunds actually in the branded medicines in Australia are sometimes a bit different from those in the UK, but they get to the same result. I think it is that the licensing of drugs has its own rules out there. Cheers Gill
