mezza
Hi guys, Does anyone have any experience in applying for jobs in Aus from the UK? Do they much prefer in country or are they quite amenable to e.g. skype interviews and the like? We are moving to an unknown city in Jan (tickets to Brisbane as it's where +1s family are) but ideally need a job prior to leaving due to rentals, schools and somewhere to ship our stuff. Many many thanks to any responses.

But no generally employers are not amenable to overseas candidates as there are generally enough local applicants. It would vary depending upon how specialist or how much in demand your occupation is of course.

If you can get an interview, it shows that the application must be suitable and have some interest in you. Goodluck, Tom

To be honest I would get yourself a .au email address (or just a .com such as gmail) and a PAYG Australian SIM & don't let on you're not in the country at the early stages. Don't lie obviously but don't make it obvious - gain their interest first & make it easy for them, even if that means you have a Skype interview at 2am We both got job offers before we left the UK but it was different times in 2008.
