sadlersville
We are looking to move out to Aus as a family. I have dual citizenship (UK and Aus) as do both my kids. However my wife would require a partner VISA. I've read that it takes around 6 months to get a partner VISA through if applied from the UK. Is there any way of applying for this once in Australia? As you can probably tell, we're looking at all of the options and particularly into how quickly we could get out there.
Mark Northam
Hi - If your wife and kids were to arrive with you on a visitor visa for tourism purposes and you then decided to lodge an onshore partner visa (subclass 820/801), that could be an option - bridging visas granted upon application would allow them to remain in Australia for the duration of the processing period (typically ranging from 12 to 18 months, whether lodged onshore or offshore). This assumes that the visitor visas were granted without condition 8503 (no further stay) and that there were no other impediments to lodging. sadlersville
Hi Mark, Thanks a lot for the quick reply - it's much appreciated. Please could you tell me roughly how much that would cost - I'm assuming it would cost more than a partner visa lodged in the UK? There shouldn't be any problems lodging a visitor visa. sadlersville
Many thanks for that YMCA, much appreciated. May I ask an additional question? It is possible that my wife may have a thyroid problem (currently waiting for an appointment to have it investigated). Assuming it is simply thyroid and nothing more serious, would this cause any barrier to the visa application process for spouse residency? (She's only nearly 39yrs old) Cheers, Brett
