Moving to Whitsunday area

Which bit specifically? If you're talking Airlie Beach / Cannonvale you don't have a lot of choice in terms of work; small communities basically get up to deal with the tourists and whatever is needed to service them. There are small marine companies and that sort of thing. What sort of work are you looking for? There is a Tafe in Cannonvale, though it's very limited in what it provides (you can find that info online). An hour north is Bowen which has a bit more industry, especially with the (likely) Abbot Port expansion, but it has been *very* quiet for years due to a downturn in exports.

The nearest large town to the Whitsundays is Mackay, about an hour south of Proserpine, which has a university campus, a lot of industry - unemployment was fairly high after the mining slowdown but is about Australian average now. We fight with Rockhampton for the crown of Queesland's second or third largest regional town so there's a lot more around than you find in the Whitsundays proper.

Depends on what you are looking for and what your specific work situation would be as to where would be the best to settle.
