Health Undertaking Query.

Hi all,

I have been granted my visa last week.

Prior to that, I was required to sign a health undertaking form 815, requiring me to contact the HUS and comply with the health undertaking upon arrival. My first entry date is only valid till Aug 2016 and hence I have plan to travel to Australia for a 5-day short validation trip in April and then return to my home country.

I am unsure whether I will be able to get the health check done in within the 5 day short trip. The whole process takes a few weeks if not months, from appointments to the tests to the final report. The form 815 says that one has to report to the health department within 4 weeks of arrival.

My question is would it be possible for me to undertake these tests when I permanently move to Australia sometime next year? and not on my very first short validation trip. OR is it compulsory that I have to do it on my first trip.

Can anyone share their experiences on this matter?

Thanks all. Looking forward to hear your experiences!

You must make contact to honour your health undertaking within 4 weeks of your arrival into Australia.

I'm not too sure about the follow up procedures after that if you leave the country again, but I'm certain that you won't be the first person to be in the same situation.

It might be worth emailing hus@bupamvs.com.au or calling 1300 794 919 to ask exactly what you need to do.

At least then you can plan ahead.

Hi, I can help you!! I also had to do a form 815 health undertaking, and I was granted my PR visa in November. I didnt realise that my medical was only valid for 6 months rather than 12, and we had to therefore make first entry by March 2016. We spent 5 days in Australia in February just to activate our visas. I found very little information regarding this issue, and I had the same questions...so I am happy to help you!

I emailed HUS@bupamvs.com.au and explained the situation, they then said that I only need to notify them when I arrive permanently (in May) and make an appointment then. When I arrived on my activation trip, I emailed them again (to abide by the undertaking) and explained I had entered the country and that I was departing again and arriving permanently in May. If I were you, email and explain your situation, and it will be fine. Good luck

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. Your comments help me to be better informed and think/plan before I email them. I was all over the place below before trying to find help here. Thank you once again.

I'd be grateful if you could answer a few move queries.

When you emailed them after reaching Australia in February, did you receive a reply to your email within the 5 days that you were there?

Your details below your post say that you got your medicals done on 11/9/15 and if you say that medicals are only valid for 6 months, then your medicals should be valid till only 10/03/15? So how come you are making your permanent move only in May. Or is it that medicals are valid for 6 months from the time of visa grant?

Hi, I'm ever so sorry I did not see your reply!

My medical was in September so when the visa was granted in November they only gave us until March to enter, this was too soon for us to make the big move so hence the activation trip in February. The first entry date is 6 months from the date of your medical.

Yes they are very prompt at responding to emails (better than me!)

Hi Mrsfilip,

No problem with the late reply. Thank you for your message.

So, you made your first visit in Feb 2016 and are making your permanent move in May 2016 and that's when you are planning to complete your health undertaking.

I request you to please try and update me on how many days/weeks it takes you to complete the health undertaking once you land in Australia in MAy 2016.

Best regards.
