  2. We had a similar experience. We shipped from UK to WA, so far so good but when our container was due, they slapped on a further door to door fee, they charged for changes to details, and put our movecube in a high truck, which made it extremely difficult to unload. It was not possible for us to unload carefully as the driver had to have us unload asap so be could leave, and he was not considerate of our belongings at all. Communication was difficult throughout and we had to complain to get our cube delivered! I'm not sure we would use them again! Be wary of extra fees, and difficulties unloading the other end owing to their poor organisation of delivery times. The quotes they give are complete rubbish.
  3. Really! It's just me, my husband, and our cat (who arrived on Monday). We are loving it around here, it's fab! We just need to find work...husband is an auto electrician and I'm looking at local/state government. Fingers crossed. Have you managed to get jobs yet? I see you're a nurse so it's probably a lot of red tape to get through I would imagine?
  4. Yeah I think we might change to telstra as well. We've been into mandurah and the signal is poor there too. We haven't got broadband connected until next week and we will be with foxtel. We are in seascapes, it's going ok. We are just hoping to get jobs soon.
  5. Hi loulou, you seem to be a few days ahead of us! We arrived on the 6th and moved to halls head on the 20th! We also have amaysim Sims, and can't get any signal. We went into the Optus shop (optus powers amaysim) and they said that there is a mast outage and they didn't know for how long it would be down. Have you been told any different? Telstra seems a lot more expensive!! This has been our only issue so far!
  6. It depends on your circumstances. For us, I don't regret not using an agent. My husband was self-employed so that required a lot of extra work for the skills assessment, and I had to to have a health undertaking. I much preferred being in control of our own destiny rather than paying someone else, and we managed fine.
  7. Hi, I'm ever so sorry I did not see your reply! My medical was in September so when the visa was granted in November they only gave us until March to enter, this was too soon for us to make the big move so hence the activation trip in February. The first entry date is 6 months from the date of your medical. Yes they are very prompt at responding to emails (better than me!)
  8. Hi, I can help you!! I also had to do a form 815 health undertaking, and I was granted my PR visa in November. I didnt realise that my medical was only valid for 6 months rather than 12, and we had to therefore make first entry by March 2016. We spent 5 days in Australia in February just to activate our visas. I found very little information regarding this issue, and I had the same questions...so I am happy to help you! I emailed HUS@bupamvs.com.au and explained the situation, they then said that I only need to notify them when I arrive permanently (in May) and make an appointment then. When I arrived on my activation trip, I emailed them again (to abide by the undertaking) and explained I had entered the country and that I was departing again and arriving permanently in May. If I were you, email and explain your situation, and it will be fine. Good luck
  9. Our movecube arrives in 3 weeks but I was expecting as much detail as Snifter gave. Whilst I love a spreadsheet I didn't think I would need to give details for each item we are packing?!? Am I wrong?
  10. Eventually after a 2 month wait (!!!), immigration have finally responded to my query regarding an early first entry date on our visa grant. They have confirmed that because I had to do a health undertaking my medical is only valid for 6 months. I thought that was the case so we have organised a validation trip, good job we weren't willing to wait 2 months for them to explain! Medicals are therefore not always valid for 12 months.
  11. Thank you all for your replies, it was very helpful. We have decided to go with jetpets as they were the most helpful and responsive
  12. Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good pet shippers in Australia? Our cat is heading over from the UK to quarantine in Melbourne with Golden Arrow in May, and then he will need to be taken from Melbourne to meet us in Perth. Anyone have any good suggestions for domestic pet shippers??? Thanks in advance
  13. I think you're right, but this would also mean that we can't just go and get the visas validated before this date, I would need to remain to have the health assessment. My joy is being overcome by sheer panic! I'm going to need that bottle of champagne when I get home this evening
  14. I have just had a thought...the medicals may not have been processed until the 15th September. I'm wondering because I had to do a health undertaking form 815 for tb history whether my medical is only valid for 6 months?
