457 visa questions - documents and health insurance

Hi guys!

I have a couple questions about the 457 visa. I'm waiting on approval from my workplace at the moment but just want to get started on my visa application so I'm ready to go.

I know I need to create an immi account and fill in the visa application form. I also know that I have to provide some references (I am able to provide 2 of my 3 references over the last 3 years), my resume, copy of my passport and my marriage certificate so I can include my husband on my application.

Is there anything else I need to provide? Do I need to certify these documents? Do I need police/health checks? Is it an issue that I can't get all the references (I can provide copies of my contract for the time I was at the job I can't get a reference for)?

Also, I know we have to have adequate health insurance for the duration of our stay. Currently we are on my husbands student visa and covered by OSHC until November. Is this ok initially or must we take out further insurance for after Novemeber at the time of application?

Also, my husband is British and therefore is enrolled in medicare and has a medicare card. Does he need to get the insurance as well or is it just me (I'm Canadian)?

For Medicare - sounds like you will need to do a bit of research.

 

If your country of origin has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement (RHCA) with Australia, you may qualify for access to Australia’s Medicare system, and therefore meet the minimum conditions of the subclass 457 visa. To see if you qualify, you should visit the Medicare Australia website.

 

It is important to remember though that even if you do qualify for access to Medicare via a RHCA, that it only covers basic medical services. Many items such as ambulance, dental work, subsidised medicines and private patient hospital costs are not covered by Medicare Australia.
