Advice re Accountants for Contractors

Hi,

 

i have recently moved from the UK where I was contracting in the IT industry through my own limited company.

 

i would like to do the same here but after researching the ATO website and business.gov.au website I think it might be best to speak to an accountant to advise me on the best approach.

 

does anyone have any recommendations of accountants on the Gold Coast who could help me?

There isn't the same benefits contracting in Australia so most don't bother setting up a company - you can register an ABN but you would be taxed as a personal services company anyway.

 

There are umbrella type companies or you can be simply paid via an agency.

 

I have known contractors band together and form small consultancies which seem to get around some of the tax rules.

 

I was a permie most of my time in Australia and had already decided to move back when I contracted so wanted to keep it simple and didn't look into it that much.
