PR application rejection, its effect on arrival with NZ citizenship

Hello forum members,

I may be getting NZ citizenship in 2 years but planning to apply for Australian PR at the moment. If my application for PR is rejected and I eventually get an NZ citizenship, will that visa rejection cause any issues when I travel to Australia with NZ passport for work or visit?

The visa that NZ'ers are issued on arrival in Australia is the Special Category Visa (subclass 444). The conditions of this visa are that the NZ passport holder does not have any criminal convictions. So if this applies to you, then you normally won't be entitled to that visa at the border. Instead, you would have to apply for a visitor/work visa, like any other foreign traveller.

A past visa refusal won't normally be a problem but without the specifics of the refusal and any restrictions imposed as a result, then it is not possible to say.

Thanks Captain.

The rejection of PR visa can only be on the basis on not being able to qualify or having enough experience for designated skill from SOL. I asked this question because I vaguely remember a rule where you cannot apply for any visa for 3 years once you are rejected for a visa, not sure if this is correct.

This restriction does exist, as does the 10 year one, but is mainly used for applicants that lied or provided false information and or bogus documents.

Unless you were informed of this restriction at the time that your visa was refused then you are free to apply for any visa at any time.
