By the way - how come I can reply to posts, but I can;t create a new post myself ??? Do I need a blue peter badge or something ??

No, I'm pretty sure that you can start a post even if you're a relatively new member. Do you use the Tapatalk app or the full website?

Have you settled on where you are heading to ??

I was in Perth.... It would be nice to head back there.....

Pretty set on QLD. The wife and I met in Brisbane (on a ship in dry dock!) and its on the east coast so she can nip home to NZ whenever she wants. Job prospects for me are another story so I may need to do FIFO until I get something closer to home.

I'm an Accountant....!!! I didn't realise the kids need to get it done...... - makes sense though....

Well if it's anything to go on, there was a scare last November that Accountants would be removed but DIBP made a statement to say that despite reports to the contrary, there was no plan to remove accountants. See here > http://migrationblog.immi.gov.au/2014/11/12/no-plans-to-remove-accountants-from-the-2015-sol/

Medicals...Yep, even babies I think!

Remember you need to go in to a specific forum first, you can't create a post from the home page

Hi! Just wanted to know that what is meant by date of effect?. I reached my 60 points on 22nd may. After that I updated my EOI with no change in points (just selected all states to consider me for 190 instead of NSW). So will it change my date of effect or will it still be 22nd may.

It is possible that it is affected as you made something more than a clerical amendment.

Don't be disheartened though because it may not have affected anything as you didn't change the points value.

The date of effect is, in this case, the date that you submitted the EOI, or amended it significantly. On the DIBP website you'll see on the previous invitation rounds tab that there is a table with date of effect, this date and time is the date of EOI submission of the last person to be invited. For example any EOI's later than that date (with the minimum points score) are still waiting and any EOI's on or before that time and date would have been invited (Notwithstanding the occupations where the ceiling has been reached)

I hope it doe snot effect else i need to wait till august:(!! but if i look at my EOI page , it says the date of effect 22/05/15 (as after that i dint change my points)

Ok, well it seems that your EOI is still dated for 22 May 2015. That's good news.

Cap.. Any idea what the profile of applicants is across the year ?? when are the peaks and troughs ???

The applications are fairly steady throughout the year. Towards the end of the programme year there are an increased number of applications when people start to worry about the new SOL and whether their occupations will be removed and there's the general feeling of now or never.

Otherwise, the applications I imagine follow a natural rise and fall throughout the year, Christmas is a good example as some people may put off applying until after Christmas because of the obvious expense of the visa application fee.

An increase in the new year is apparent for several reasons, Christmas is over, it's cold in the UK, the BBC start showing 'Wanted Down Under' and it obviously gets people thinking about a possible change in their lifestyle.

Although, I don't have any hard evidence to back up anything that I've written above, it seems quite logical (to me) and there is definitely a marked increase of new visitors/members to this forum around Jan/Feb asking the 'general visa query' questions.

Added: also the Visa Fee goes up generally each year so that may be another reason why there's a rush of applications towards the end of the programme year.

The SOL 2015-2016 has been released.

Panelbeaters and cabinet makers will be added to the Skilled Occupation List for independent skilled migration applicants.

Other key changes to the SOL include the removal of urban and regional planners, dentists and dental specialists.

Additional occupations have been flagged for close review in next year’s process.
